Loving this album.

Indeed. It struck me how a lot of these songs remind me of Cooley's slower tunes, Loaded gun, Ceckout Vegas, Love Like This. Got that Country Gospel vibe.

I was fairly certain I would like this album but, I can't get enough of it. "Errol Flynn" and "Them Old Love Songs" tear me apart every single listen.
I hadn't given thought to the Cooley comparison but I can hear it, especially Checkout Time which features Spooner on keys. The Florence/Muscle Shoals heavy personnel who play on here make it especially cool. John Paul White knocked it out of the park on the production and he also played some nice rhythm guitar. I'd love to see him try something like this Donnie's buddy Dan Penn. Dan might have a bit of trouble handing the production over to someone else though.

The doc just adds to the Fritts legend. Kristofferson has never been shy about his admiration for Donnie. I believe he had a nice week in Nashville during Ameicanafest promoting both the doc and the album.

Sounds amazing. I do kinda miss hearing the audience at points --- you don't quite get the full effect without hearing the entire room screaming "LYING SACKS OF SHIT" or singing over Cooley at the end of Zip City. With that in mind, I'm dropping the first-listen rating from 15 stars to 14.50. It is nice to hear everything at one time though---you don't get that on the rail. That adds a few stars, so I guess we're up to 17 stars on a five-star scale.

I ordered it on vinyl and on CD. My wife will hate me.
