Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
It's squarely in my Top 3 with McMurtry and Phil Cook.Jonicont wrote:Vinyl--fancy embossed cover---going to knock something out of my top 5
I think Evan Felker is growing into a McMurtry-esque ability to paint these really vivid, specific character studies that convey universal themes. I can't shake the coincidence between the end of "Complicated Game" and beginning of "Turnpike Troubadours". Both songs in these slots ("Long Island Sound", "The Bird Hunters") focus around Okie dove hunters. In McMurtry's, he's left for the bright lights of New York City and reflecting briefly on his past, while somewhat emptily celebrating his current existence - he references an old dove hunt as a fading sign of the life he kew. In Felker's, he's returned from the city on the heels of a long-coming break up, using a hunt with an old friend to focus himself back on his life - getting his groove back.
The way these songs accidentally cross paths, and are among my favorites of the year, seems like what Jung would call "synchronicity".

I like this Elder album a lot too. What I'm really looking forward to hearing is the With the Dead album that is being released this Friday. There's a good article and interview with Lee Dorrian today on TheQuietus.com.tinnitus photography wrote:top 10 album of the year for me. love those guys so much. bummed they aren't on the Spirit Caravan bill here in a couple of weeks.allisonsdc wrote:

Saw them last night in Carrboro with Mark Olson. Not a huge turnout but what few people (30-40) were there were into it and very receptive. BoRox treated us to lots of old faves and did the new record in its entirety. While I enjoyed Mark Olson, his set was a bit of a mixed bag that tended more towards acoustic based world music. At least that was my first impression, I admittedly haven't kept up with his work outside of the Jayhawks.3milelake wrote:

I've listened twice. Digging it. Still obvious Neil influence, but no songs that sound specifically like distinct Neil songsallisonsdc wrote:
