I haven't seen this posted yet, it's another article by that guy from Grantland, this one's about Lydia Loveless and Sturgill Simpson. I've only read the first half so far and to be honest I don't really get his point and I don't agree with a lot of what he's saying. Plus, I don't give a shit about Taylor Swift.

Yeah, other than his enthusiasm for the music, the Loveless part didn't really resonate. It got kind of circular between noting the pointlessness of making "anti this or that" comparisons and, well, making anti this or that comparisons. I thought the Simpson part was better. And then there was this bit of wisdom from Mr. Simpson: "Don’t be a dick and be nice to people."

On edit: Forgot the part about Loveless believing she appeals mostly to "40 year old men." I thought that was spooky weird. I mean, allowing for some flexibility on the age thing, conceptually that's who her fans are on this board. And that freaks me out, that likes/dislikes can be so demographically predictable, especially w/ respect to an artist that i assume has fairly wide appeal. Plus, I don't get what about her music appeals specifically to that demographic (while acknowledging that it appeals to me - the duality of the Loveless thing?).

Yeah the "40 year old dudes" comment caught my eye too. That's probably based on who she sees in the audience at her shows. Kinda surprising that she doesn't appeal to 20- and 30-somethings too, but yeah her comment made me laugh.

I haven't driven a tractor with a stereo in it in so long that it was before I knew DBT. It's fairly easy to imagine sitting in a combine running rows of corn in the early evening with "First Air Of Autumn" playing. Maybe I'll call in some favors and help with the harvest this year at my friends farm.

I'm 3 tracks and in not really interested in hearing it again. The Old 97's are really hit or miss for me, mostly miss. They do have some fantastic songs though ("No Mother", "Color of a Lonely Heart is Blue", "Won't Be Home")
