You know I don't always agree with Patterson Hood's recommendations, but I always note them and give them a shot. I've discovered so much good music from his recs that I would be foolish not to, this one though was a tough sell but I felt compelled to try anyway. Holy god man. I saw this band open for The Hold Steady in 2009 a few times and didn't care for them at all. I thought they were earnest but ultimately boring. Because of that I've paid no attention to their output since. Until today. It's the first album that I can remember listening to once and then immediately starting again. It's fresh, it's crisp and yet there is something oddly familiar like you've almost heard it before but not quite. Color me impressed.

I had them recommended to me at the first Hopscotch Music Festival in 2010 and in that sense, have always preferred them live as the songs on the records always seemed to run together. I see this album changing that.

It has a VERY 80's vibe to it, but I can't place the exact band/songs/album

I definitely hear 80s. To my ears at least. Almost a solo Don Henley or something. But better. Way better. Maybe I'm crazy.

I had to give The War on Drugs album a (brief) rest so I finally gave this Natural Child record a listen after seeing it on this thread a few times. I'm gonna have to buy this one too, I love it.

I am not 100% sold on it, but there is something satisfying there. I am oddly drawn to it after a couple of spins. Can't quite pinpoint what it is.
