Let me guess, 3-4 genres, rock, country, blues, jazz, and maybe some R&B/hip-hop

Debut record from Charlotte's Temperance League. It was produced by Mitch Easter but other than a bit of a Power Pop element it really doesn't have much in common with the bands he's so closely associated with. The most obvious influence is Springsteen but there's lots of other influences at work here including raucous pub rock, 50's era rock n' roll and even a bit of punk (though that's much more evident in their live shows). There's also a refreshing brevity to the songs, the longest of which barely goes past the 3 minute mark. If any of that intrigues you in the least, the record is streaming at Bandcamp.

You know it does my heart some good to see some Backsliders all up in here. As much as I love their two studio records, their live EP is also well worth seeking out especially for the set closing rave up, "Yep!"

I've had this one for a few years now, and whenever I go back to it I love it more and more. Does anyone have any other John Prine recommendations? Is The Singing Mailman Delivers any good?

What 4sooner said. Bruised Orange is also one of my favorites, if not my very favorite. I'd also recommend Sweet Revenge. I like The Singing Mailman Delivers but it's more of a rarities/live album. It would make a nice addition to your collection but I'd probably steer you in the direction of more his studio records first.

If you're anywhere as awesome in real life as you are on the internet, I'm going to assume you get your ass kicked on a daily basis.

You truly believe that people who don't subscribe to your belief system, in all aspects of life, are idiots. That, my friend, is the mark of the true ignorant fool.

I listen to "Souvenirs" more than any other Prine album. It may be a compilation of re-recordings, but for the most part they blow the originals away. But you can't go wrong with any Prine - "The Missing Years" is a fav too.

Produced by the late Howie Epstien. One of Prine's best albums for sure... Many special guests.
