I first heard of Anders when his band Varnaline opened for Centro-matic at King's in Raleigh back in the early 00s. He didn't come back onto my radar again until the Gob Iron album with Farrar around 2006. I still don't own that record but I did see them on tour. As I probably posted on 9 Bullets at the time, the evening started pretty quietly with acoustic sets but ended in a Crazy Horse-like roar. In addition to Farrar and Anders, Mark Spencer (Blood Oranges) was part of the band. After the acoustic set from Farrar and Anders it was a musical chairs type thing with all of them switching instruments, which included Farrar on drums at one point.

I envision (hope for) this happening on the upcoming tour supporting New Multitudes. After a set of the quieter, acoustic songs, I would love a blistering set starting out with "V.D. City" & "I Was a Goner." From there I wouldn't complain if they played musical chairs with each individual artists' catalogs. Chickamauga -> (Hats Off to Buster Keaton) Doornail -> Donadante -> Mighty Midshipmen -> Buzz & Grind. Then, maybe some covers - Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black), Tough Mama, Miss Judy's Farm - to name a few.

What is that? Looks great.

It's a promo EP that was sent out to radio stations when Anodyne was released. Looks like there's some used copies for sale at Amazon. I may be wrong but I think some of the tunes may have made it onto the reissue of Anodyne that came out several years ago.

I'm hoping for this myself. The Monsters of Folk tour was a great musical chairs type thing, even though the album itself (and Conor's career) was pretty meh.
