Lydia Loveless is a talented 21-year old Ohioan singer-songwriter-guitarist (Coshocton by way of Columbus) who merges punkish energy and country singing and writing. Her debut release The Only Man was issued in early 2010 by Columbus's Peloton Records. It features such tracks as "Always Lose" and "Back On The Bottle."
Chicago's Bloodshot Records recently released her second album, entitled Indestructible Machine.
And now let's check out a few covers that she's done...
I met up with uncle rickey & Cooley Girl for a Lydia Loveless show in New Haven on 10/5/11. There could not have been more than 20 people there, but she and her band gave a great performance. I think she has the talent and energy to to go a long way.

She's passing through North Cackalackey on tour this week but unfortunately none of the dates are all that close to me (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill).

Nice one, Bill.
I've been checking her out and this Lydia belts em out like a young Maria McKee. Love that girly/country/punky thing. If littlemama was around, I bet she'd like this girl.
Some good info here: http://mplayer.pastemagazine.com/issues ... bble-youth (there's a song that you can download called Can't Change Me - Bill posted a slower Youtube version of it, but the download version really rocks and twangs)

Love her! I know bold99 is going to be chiming in. He told me about her a while ago. What an old soul voice, love the cursing, too.

I've been listening to her new one a lot - she's got something. Well, she's got a nasty case of Steve Earle apparently (and a wicked sense of humor).

She's playing at the Garage in Winston-Salem in July with Kenny Roby (formerly of Six String Drag) doing the opening honors. I'd love to catch that show but I seriously doubt I will make the two hour trip to do so. For some reason, she seems to have skipped over the Triangle area (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill) unless she played here and I missed it before she came onto my musical radar last year.

Digging that one too. I have little doubt I will enjoy the hell out of this album.
2014 coming strong out of the gate for new music.

I was having trouble hearing SoundCloud clips until I upgraded my internet browser yesterday. I listened to Head for the first time this morning. She wrote this song in one sitting? Damn it's great and catchy as Hell. Really like it.

Well, you do sound kind of Clamsy for saying but you're right! Saw her last week and she's such a hot mess. Skull and cross bones tights, kind of trashy rock looking compared with how she used to look. Rock star terrific.

In this interview she talks about journalists making lazy comparisons. In this case, Loretta Lynn. As I've mentioned elsewhere, I've seen the same thing happen with Tift Merritt, Heather McEntire (Mount Moriah) and others. Comparisons sort of come with the territory but for some reason, the default for some female vocalists with a bit of twang in their voice appears to be Loretta. Not that it's a bad thing to be compared to Loretta Lynn, mind you...
