Dexateens v. Slobberbone

Know of a great band you think we'd like to hear about? Got some music news? Or just want to talk about music in general? Post it here.

Dexateens v. Slobberbone

Post by Gang Green »

Thanks to 3DD I've downloaded a bunch of Dexateens and Slobberbone. I'm really liking Dexateens and I'm kinda neutral on Slobberbone. Interested in all your thoughts.

I love them both, but fall on the Slobberbone side. They are reckless, raw and the characters are even sadder sacks than the the ones in DBT songs. I bought my first Slobberbone record in 2002 on a recommendation with Slippage, but I bought the wrong album. I dug it, and occasionally put it on over the years but didn't really become a fan until I heard the previous album to Slippage, Everything You Thought Was Right Was Wrong Today. Blew my mind and now it's one of my top ten all time albums.

I bought Thought Was Right... and Barrel Chested. I'm still pretty new to Slobberbone, I'll keep listening.

Dexateens. I've tried hard with Slobberbone but there's just stuff that bugs me. I had to give both bands a good chance to sink in, and I didn't really get it with the Dexateens until Singlewide - then I went back to Red Dirt Rising and it was love love love.

I love the Dexateens, but I fall on the Slobberbone side of the discussion. Like TC said, the key to the kingdom is Everything You Though Was Right.....

That being said, I might listen to Singlewide more than any album by Slobberbone.

I still haven't heard anything by the Dexateens (ducks and runs).

I'm amazed that given how much Cortez loves that Neil Young guy that he's yet to connect with Slobberbone. That's one influence they seem to wear pretty heavily on their sleeve. The first record I heard by them was Everything You Thought Was Right... which sold me on them immediately. Sadly, I've only seen them in concert a couple of times and The Drams once.

Oh, yeah, I should say that I do like Slobberbone. There's some stuff of theirs I love. But I love the Dexateens at a heart level, too, not just with my ears.

One of the guys from the Dexateens played King's in Raleigh with his new band (the Glory Fires?) this past year but I didn't find out about the show until it was too late, I'd already made other plans.

they'd work better as a tag team, than as opponents.

Agreed. And i haven't seen Slobberbone live. But I've seen a short set of the Dexateens and I'd want them headlining.

If this bill actually did a little tour together, I'd be at every show.

Lee Bains III and the Glory Fires. I haven't seen them live yet, but I've heard some stuff. They're bad-ass.

Slobberbone has the kind of name that is tailor-made for a joint tour w/ Cherry Poppin' Daddies.

I fall on the Dexateens side of things because they are so unique. I can't really describe them. Maybe country/indie/garage? I mean, how would you describe The Dexateens to someone who never heard them before?

The only reason I ever found out about either is because of this board. I love them both. If you held a gun to my head and told me I couldnt' listen to one of them again, I'd give up my Slobberbone collection. But I'd really miss them especially Crow Pot Pie. Some of the Slobberbone seems kinda sophomoric, but so am I. (I stole that line from someone on altcountrytab's description of Dr. Dog, but it fits perfectly).

Just finally got a couple of Dexateens albums last night. (I know, I know  ). I have some good truck-time coming tomorrow, so going to give them some time then. But it will be tough for them to rate higher than Slobberbone for me.
