top 5 bands you want to see but ain't yet

Know of a great band you think we'd like to hear about? Got some music news? Or just want to talk about music in general? Post it here.

top 5 bands you want to see but ain't yet

Post by mgsooner »

Let's try to keep it to bands that are currently active and still exist. So no "Uncle Tupelo" or "Led Zeppelin".

For me:

1. Radiohead
2. Doves
3. The White Stripes
4. Neil Young
5. Explosions in the Sky/Modest Mouse (tie)

The truth is it is starting to get to the point that I've seen just about everyone that I've wanted to see.

I hate to say it but you might be disappointed by Son Volt. I've seen them 3 times now, and they are the only band I can think of that I like their studio material better than their live show. Poor Jay just doesn't have much stage presence, and his vocals have been muddy as hell all 3 times I've seen them.

Edit: I first saw the Black Keys at ACL Fest back in 2005 and that is still one of the better shows I've ever seen. It absolutely blew me away.

THS is definitely has a place on my list. I think they're playing in OKC sometime this summer, so I'll probably take advantage.

Huh, I didn't even think of a Patterson solo show. That would have to be in my top 5. A Cooley solo show would probably be #1.

Very please to say I've seen Opeth 4 times. 3 of the 4 with the "original" lineup with Peter Lindgren on guitar and Martin Lopez on drums. Seem like a very cool bunch of guys and they are absolutely perfect live.

Yeah, I'm in Okie land too...they are playing at Diamond Ballroom. I live like 20 minutes from there...I had already purchased tickets for their Denver show (I'll be there on vacation) then I heard about the OKC gig. Hope to hit both but my schedule might prevent me from hitting the OKC show...damnit. At least I'll get one in...

honestly I think Jay solo will be better than a full blown SV rock show. Jay is a very quiet, unassuming fellow and I think an acoustic solo show would fit him well.

For those that said MMJ...that once was #1 on my list. When the day finally came I was NOT disappointed. I'm dying to see them again since I've only had the pleasure once.

If we're playing that game

Sex Pistols 1976
The Clash 1981
Rolling Stones 1968
Talking Heads at CBgB 1977
The Ramones

And if you're wondering "Should I go see The Dead Weather" they're in (or near) my town and I'm free that night and tickets are relatively cheap?"

the answer is, YES, GO SEE THEM

lucky you! neither of them seem to play around here...last time MSP played here was at a festival in '07 I think, before I started to listen to them. And Reigning Sound only seem to be touring continental Europe when they cross the pond.
