musical brain dump....or things i think i hear
proper acknowledgments to 3ddnc and peter king....
a lot of billy gibbons in cooley's songwriting.
groovy swing vibe on ny & ch live @ fillmore.
i hear a dying man in most hank sr. songs.
heavy stones influence in cracker.
i think tom petty nicked the opening riff of mary jane's last dance from the jayhawks or vice versa.

That one and "rebel without a clue" from the 'Mats. I've mentioned this before but it's not a big stretch when you consider they were both opening acts for Petty before those respective songs came out. He also lifted a lyric/phrase from Prine (Prine's words, not mine) but it escapes me at the moment. If it means anything, John Prine didn't seem to have a problem with it. I guess it could fall under the "good artists borrow, great artists steal" axiom.

Yes. Absofuckinglutely. Hank Sr's songs actually scare me sometimes.

I think hear a female Neil Young & Crazy Horse in Lucinda's "Real Live Bleeding Fingers and Broken Guitar Strings."

When having difficulty sleeping, listening to Magnolia Electric Co's Sojourner box set with a good set of headphones is an enchanting experience.

the verse melody of "alabama pines" kinda reminds me of that "hey delilah" song that was popular a few years ago.

"Indianapolis" by the Bottle Rockets has a lot of "Flags & Banners" by The Faces. Particularly the intro.

The second verse of the song Go Go Boots reminds me of Tom Petty's Mary Jane's Last Dance. A lot.

"Heart on a String" brings to mind some of the God-awful collaborations between Santana and Rob Thomas.

for btb.
i think i hear bob mouldish guitar stylings on tbtd.
i think i now really dig easy on yourself....mainly b/c of patterson's vocal.
i think i hear a dexateens vibe on the 1st track on the deep vibration lp. one guitar run-up, near the end, sounds like a dexateens riff....settle down off of s/t maybe.

I'm reminded of Old Crow Medicine Show's "Wagon Wheel" when I hear the fiddles in "Codeine".

Everytime I hear "(Something's Got to) Give Pretty Soon", I can't help but think of Lee Roy Parnell's "The Road". I think it has to do with the steel guitar or something. Let the beatings begin.
I'm only human, though I'm super at times.

Both songs share the same basic chord progression, too.

Don't necessarily hear that, but I dig Lee Roy Parnell.

I tell ya what I don't hear. He's So Fine In My Sweet Lord. Can't imagine George nicked that.

You know that two-part guitar solo in the Guess Who's Rain Dance? Listen to it and the two-part guitar solo in Steely Dan's Reeling in the Years next to each other.

Sounds like Ralph Molina is behind the kit on Lucinda's "Real Live Bleeding Fingers and Broken Guitar Strings."

I like some Dwight Yoakam, but his cover of "Train in Vain" just doesn't work.

I hear DBT's Days of Graduation guitar intro in the beginning of Neil Young's Danger Bird.

try to tell the difference between the drum intros to Adam House cat's 'Cemetaries" (I think its still on DBT's myspace) & MMJ's "one big Holiday"

i do not know my kids' phone numbers.
they are programmed by their names.
someday, if the batteries die, i may find myself, shit fuck out of luck.
yet
anytime, any day, anywhere...
867-5309
by heart.
how big of a loser does this make me?
or
how big of a genius does this make Alex Call and Jim Keller (performed by Tommy Tutone )?
