Quicklists MCLIII: Hank Williams Songs

Post by Smitty »

this is the most difficult list for me yet

1. I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry (one of few perfect, timeless songs)
2. Lost Highway (Leon Payne wrote it, but Hank lived it)
3. My Son Calls Another Man Daddy
4. Ramblin' Man (its got the spook)
5. The Log Train
6. Angel of Death (can you truthfully say with your dying breath that you're ready to meet the angel of death?)
7. Alone & Forsaken
8. You Win Again
9. Lost on the River
10. (I Heard That) Lonesome Whistle
11. Mind Your Own Business/Settin the Woods on Fire (proto-punk)
12. Picture From Life's Other Side
13. Your Cheatin' Heart (the quintessential country song)
E quindi uscimmo a riveder le stelle.

Smitty, Hank wasn't always lonesome and lost. Sometimes he was fun too...

Tear in My Beer
Why Don't You Love Me Like You Used to Do?
Settin' the Woods on Fire
My Bucket's Got a Hole in It
If you don't run you rust

Yes he was - but his darker, more introspective side always intrigued me more.

No deep tracks for me here--I don't know his catalog all that well. That said, it's not hard to come up with five winners I'm sure I could sing (poorly) with a lyric sheet:

Your Cheating Heart
Jambalaya
I Saw The Light
Why Don't You Love Me Like You Used To Do?
I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry
The sooner we put those assholes in the grave&piss on the dirt above it, the better off we'll be

I dig Bobby Dylan and I dig Johnny Cash
And I think Waylon Jennings is a table thumpin' smash
And hearin' Joni Mitchell feels as good as smokin' grass
And if you don't like Hank Williams, honey, you can kiss my ass

Lost Highway
I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry
Ramblin' Man
Honky Tonk Blues
Your Cheatin' Heart.
