i used to live here in Oxford with this dog named Wayne and sometime along about 1994 or 95, the Bad Livers played Proud Larrys for the first time. Banjo and guitar virtuoso Danny Barnes was in that band and came over to my house that day to borrow a bicycle. He and Wayne met.
In many of the years since, Danny has returned to Oxford to play Larrys and he always asked about Wayne or commented to me about "that great dog you had."
It's easy to appreciate Danny Barnes for the incredible playing and songwriting that is his talent.
But a fellow who travels the world making music and meeting people but who always remembers a Mississippi dog is, in my book, a good fellow indeed.
And then I find out today that he and Wayne share a birthday of December 21!
Makes me like Danny Barnes even more.
Danny has a great new record out and I'm looking forward to hearing him tonight at Proud Larrys.
