Digging the hell out of it. Thanks, Dime.

very cool. you won't regret it. love both of those records. top to bottom. dog days is a perfect lp. cool breeze is a man on the loose toting some baggage.

bro swings a deadly axe throughout and she's got that that fat, low end, floor rattling bass and hip angel harmonies.

lots of pure strain rock dna in their blood.

harp too.

Jellyroll is just pure sweat, piss, jizz, blood rock and roll. Can't put these down. When people call a guitar an "axe", its because of records like Cool Breeze. Fucking levels you.

Stumbled across this article today from November's Oxford American magazine.

Well, this is upsetting:

Laurie Stirratt wrote:Dear fans and friends,
After careful consideration Cary and I have decided to part ways and pursue other projects. Blue Mountain has meant the world to both of us but it's time for a change. Cary and I will always be friends and we mutually want whats best for each other. It's been a wonderful experience and we are both grateful for the memories we have. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you for your support over the years. Nothing was ever possible without y'all.
We will be playing out the remainder of our shows scheduled (listed below) and hope you guys can make it out for one last hurrah. Our final show will be at Double Decker Festival in our beloved Oxford, MS, which will be a blast.
Thanks also to our families for their never ending support.
Onward!

Very much so.
I'll be staying in Oxford for Double Decker rather than going to JazzFest.

I'll probably go Sunday. This sure does suck.

Very sorry to hear this. I was hoping that Blue Mountain/Marah tour would eventually make it's way to the Triangle. On the other hand I consider myself fortunate to have seen Blue Mountain at the Pour House in Raleigh a few years back.

Laurie has put up some CD/LP bundles for sale at discounted prices. She's donating some of it to local charities. Git some:

I just heard my first Blue Mountain song and I have to admit I'm a little gobsmacked.

Oh they were awesome. I was late to the party too but StevieRay turned me onto them in around 2006 I think and then really got into them after I met my now wife and found out they were friends of hers. I listen to Dog Days at least once a month. Got to see their second to last show last year and am really bummed there won't be any more.

A buddy sent me a link to Soul Sister (the second recording from Omnibus) which lead me to Allmusic.com to read up on them. My plan is to purchase Dog Days and get caught up as soon as possible.

Nice to see Cary has a new record out (July 19), haven't seen any posts about it. Stumbled upon it on Spotify. It sounds most fine. Gonna grab it off iTunes.

I've been meaning to come back and post in this thread for a little bit.

I got the expanded version of Dog Days. Not only are there great songs on Dog Days itself like Let's Ride, Soul Sister and ZZQ but the expanded version has bonus tracks like Broke Down and Busted, Song Without A Name and Hermit of the Hidden Beach which are INCREDIBLE songs.

Love this band. I used to bug Smitty via pm every so often and say, "hey man what is some good stuff similar to _______?" He would make me a bunch of recs and they would always be good with at least a couple of things that would blow my mind.

Blue Mountain was one that blew my mind. I can't remember what he told me about them exactly but it had to have been an understatement. It is a rare week that I dont listen to this band. "does anyone remember? Does anybody care?" There are dang few records that open with a line that kills you like that. I've yet to venture into all the Cary Hudson solo stuff and I think I'll get on that this weekend.

Digging into the Cool Breeze record and loving it. The line in What the Old Man Told Me about going to the country store for a cold drink and "a little hard work will make it taste better." My dad used to say that exact thing to me growing up. Loving this.
