Artist Of The Week-Bottle Rockets

Know of a great band you think we'd like to hear about? Got some music news? Or just want to talk about music in general? Post it here.

So is this snow storms impacting shows going to become a yearly event around here?

heard some of the new songs at The Iron Horse last PM. Brian had a new Rickenbacker twelve string that sounded just fine. New album should be a good one.

Well the band is already in their hotel and the show is still on. I will be pissed if I can't get there and the show goes on. If nothing else, the parking will be an adventure.

^^^^^ Brian Henneman tuning up his Gibson about 15 mins before show time

Finally saw the Bottle Rockets last night, in some dude's living room about 30 minutes from my house. What a great time! They played for about 90 minutes and it was basically a Brian Henneman storyteller show. Other than the 5 or 6 new songs they played (which all sounded great), he just took shout-out requests the whole time, told stories, jokes, song introductions, etc. Lots of old stuff from the first two records, within the first 15 minutes they had already played Kerosene, Welfare Music and Happy Anniversary and it was awesome. Brought along my wife and another couple and they all enjoyed the show as much as me. Too much fun for a random Wednesday night!

I guess I am now officially an executive producer. Got the t shirt to prove it. And a very cool t shirt it is. Gets me about as close to cool as I'll ever be. Can the album be far behind?

My exec producer stuff arrived Saturday. I felt pretty cool as well. I cannot decide if the shirt is going to be worn often or if I want to just save it and display or something.

Well you are obviously 3 days cooler than me 8-)

I gave the same decision brief thought but it was pretty easy to come down on the side of "t shirts are for wearing." BTW, did u realize that there was some stuff in that very flat flat rate envelope?

Are you referring to the letter and the postcard type thing ?
I will probably wear mine, but not very often....maybe break it out first for a John Mellencamp show.

Yes. It was so light and flat that I almost threw it out w/out opening it.

Mine arrived today. Very pleased with the lyric sheet & autographed drum head too. Even cooler will be seeing our names on the CD liner notes. I don't buy many "hard copies" anymore, but this will be an exception.

When I saw them at that living room show last month, people were calling out requests for Indianapolis, and Henneman said he wouldn't play it because he was sick of the song from having handwritten the lyrics so many times in connection with that promotion.

For my own amusement I stitched together a mix of live rarities from 3 shows that I've had for some time:
Live @ Tramps, NYC (?)
Hi-Pointe Cafe, St. Louis (1998-12-25)
Abbey Pub, Chicago, Illinois
2002-12-31

I think it turned out pretty good, so thought I would share. All live except track 27 A Living Hell that was on a Bloodshot Records compilation.

Thanks for the fun mix, 3milelake.

You gotta respect a band that can cover both "Dirty White Boy" and "Time Fades Away."

"All right, let's do another one of those Bon Jovi type sing-alongs."

Brian Henneman on Otis Gibbs' "Thanks for Giving a Damn" podcast. All 3 appearances. Hell of a story teller.

For those who have never heard Otis Gibbs free podcast on iTunes, it is excellent, but sadly some of the earliest seem to be no longer available.

The Bottle Rockets just released a bunch of east coast tour dates for the first two weeks of October. With Mark Olsen of the Jayhawks opening. I'm not the biggest Jayhawks fan but that sounds like a pretty good twin bill.

Bought tix for their show at Milkboy in Philadelphia on Sunday Oct 11. :)

Going to see the band in Buffalo tomorrow (Oct. 6) Is it a jerk move to wear my executive producer T, especially if I'm up front? It's a great T and I haven't even worn it yet....Love this band but would not want to awkward them...maybe I just answered my own question
