This was posted on BRox Facebook page:

Dylan had The Heartbreakers, Neil Young had Pearl Jam, Marshall Crenshaw has The Bottle Rockets. Watch for tour dates coming soon. We'll be opening the shows, and playing as his band. Stay tuned...

Hell, maybe this will finally get them down to Okla.
Marshall Crenshaw is a very good songwriter, and we know how this band will rock. Sounds very interesting.

Loved Marshall Crenshaw back in the day, have not kept up with him over the years though. This one looks like a must see in 2011.
We call him Scooby Do, but Scooby doesn’t do. Scooby, is not involved

Love(d) Crenshaw (i too don't know what he's been up to recently), love the brox, but i'm not hearing this. Obviously they're all accomplished professionals and they'll make it work at some level, but it doesn't seem like an intuitive match to me. Count me intrigued as opposed to incredibly excited.

With all due respect to Marshall Crenshaw, I'd much rather see the Bottle Rockets on a bill with McMurtry. That said, the last time the Bottle Rockets played here I was pretty much underwhelmed. The first set was all new material which probably didn't help them build up any momentum. By the time they had started to catch fire with more familiar songs in the second set, it was too little, too late.

One of my favorite bands. Here's a little story about what great guys they are, too: I got engaged on New Year's Day this year. To set the mood, I'd put together a playlist. The last song that played before I got out the ring was the Bottle Rockets' "Pot of Gold." (FYI: R.E.M.'s "At My Most Beautiful" played as I asked the question.).

We already had plans to see the Brox at their show at Smiths the next weekend. The next day, I found Brian Henneman on Facebook and sent him a message, asking if they could play the song at the show , and told him why. He wrote me back within five minutes, and told me to consider it done. At the show that Friday, about half an hour into the show, Brian said "this next song comes to us via the power of the Internet. There's no radio anymore, so the Internet is really the only way to make requests. This is a true request--this song originally wasn't in the setlist, but a guy wrote to me and told me he just got engaged and asked us to play it." I hadn't told my fiancee about this, and she just about melted.

Unbelievably cool thing for them to do, and the whole show rocked, as they always do. Plus, I think we're going to use "Pot of Gold" for our first dance song now, too.

Seconded. Last Spring when the DBTs played in Wilmington, NC and my present to my nephew was a ticket to his first ever DBTs show, I very seriously considered putting in a request for "Birthday Boy". I'm glad I didn't as the sorry motherfucker drove back home from Wilmington that afternoon without even bothering to tell me. Yeah, I'm still slightly pissed off about it.

Today's No Depression email has a link to an old B Rox article...

Bottle Rockets
Dirty white boys got the red wine country blues
By Jeff Copetas
You get the feeling that Brian Henneman drinks Budweiser. You get the feeling he looks out the window of his home in Missouri and sees a hot, dusty neighborhood full of run-down cars whose tires squeal and kick up that aforementioned dust. He might remind you of a truck driver or a mechanic, maybe a gas station owner. You might not ever guess he’s the lead singer and guitarist for a quickly emerging country-rock band called the Bottle Rockets who pack a wallop the size of Bono’s head on record and even moreso onstage.

The band was assembled by Henneman, a proud native of Festus, MO, who now lives in St. Louis. Not that he’s lost touch with his small-town roots:

“I still go down there and cut Ma and Pa’s grass about once every two weeks or so,” he insists.

Saw them at the North Star last November, had a terrible trip in, car overheated on 676 and ended up getting lost in a not so safe part of philly until I realized I had a GPS on my phone, got to the venue and realized it is about as big as a coat closet, after a bad opening act ( IMO), I was ready to bail since 8am was only about six hours away and a long work day to follow but I had never seen the Rockets live and was determined not to let the prior crap ruin the show. Well I was rewarded with a great show that I still think about because of two lines I heard that night, first was " now for some live whisker pullin, this is a folk song afterall" with the bass player on harmonica, and the opener " 16 years of a relatively good time is our version of success". Love the Bottle Rockets, thanks to Stephen King writing about them in EW when Zoysia came out or I never would have heard of them.

Saw them "open" for McMurtry last night. What a great show. The band was damn tight and the setlist was my song for song perfect B-Rox setlist. They came into the crowd after their set to watch James and the boys, and my buddy and I chatted with the bass player a little bit. Very cool guy, and it was very obvious how much they were enjoying themselves. Good time.

That tour has to come east! I don't know how much JM tours out here but I would lie cheat and steal and then some to see that show.

I clicked on this thread to post about the one BR show I was at — and I come across this. I was just pumped to see the band that night, and then he brings up Tweedy out of nowhere. Tiniest venue I've ever seen a show, but certainly memorable.
