Honestly I didn’t realize that I posted nearly the same post three hours later. Still, listening again now. Amazing that there’s music this good just lying around. Glad we’re finally able to hear it.cortez the killer wrote:

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
Perfect summary of what it is. I saw you mention you got the box set. I already have the self-titled on vinyl (randomly picked it up at a record shop in Portland. OR 6+ years ago), so I just went ahead and bought Double Coda on wax as a stand-alone. Fired up to put it on the turntable. Such great songs!Tequila Cowboy wrote:Honestly I didn’t realize that I posted nearly the same post three hours later. Still, listening again now. Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
ive loved some of his earliest stuff for a while but hadnt explored his catalog enough given his stature as a local legend. this one is brilliant. a heavy collab with jay bennett and it shows. could use a trim (power pop, much as i love it, isnt a genre suited to 50 minute albums) but when it hits it absolutely soars

not familiar with any of the bands this guy fronted but i gather this is quieter. really enjoying it though, simple songs, really catchy, balances the mopey bits with great humor. really great recent pickup

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
If I have understood it correctly the album is compiled from demos and half-finished studio recordings, with the remaining members providing some overdubs and edits later on? I find it remarkable how good it sounds. Very consistent.cortez the killer wrote:Perfect summary of what it is. I saw you mention you got the box set. +1. I put this on. My youngest (10 yo) is struggling hard with sitting still on the couch. Very promising. lolClams wrote:

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
Yes. That is my understanding, too. To my knowledge, the only formal albums they released were Double Thriller and their self-titled album. I wasn't aware that there is a "box set" being sold. If so, I assumed it was the 2 original records and the posthumous Double Coda recordings.RolanK wrote:If I have understood it correctly the album is compiled from demos and half-finished studio recordings, with the remaining members providing some overdubs and edits later on? * Edited to add that the box set is the first two records + Double Coda + more.

Wow, digging dip. I considered myself a Lee Michaels fan back in the day but I don't remember that album, at least not w/ that cover. Do you know what i mean?Shakespeare wrote:

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
Everything Has Changed (a) is a fuckin' monster of a song, (b) gives me a huge Something Big (Tom Petty) vibe (or as a good friend used to say, a huge Something Big nuance), and (c) makes me think of Boyd Crowder and Raylan Givens
Son, this ain't a dream no more, it's the real thing

Saw him play with Frosty in 1970 in Central Park. IIRC it was in the skating rink. Opening act was Miles Davis w/ Airto. How fucking crazy is that!!!Shakespeare wrote:

Re: What's Everyone Listening to?
i know its a longshot but i still hold out hope sonic youth has something more to offer, even if just a tour. never got to see them
more archival stuff like this would be decent consolation.
