I have her Greatest Hits, but it is a very low-fi affair. I'd love to know the definitive remaster as well.

I don't know squadoosh about Mahalia Jackson (other than she is considered the greatest gospel singer of all time) but this double disc collection appears to be the one to get.

Yeah, you can't go wrong with that Essential collection. She's one of those artists whose catalog is vast, and has been farmed out to million little labels to press cds.

If yr in the mood for more powerful female fronted gospel, check out Aretha's "Amazing Grace" album. They remastered it recently and it looks like this:

Highly, highly rec'd.

BTW, L-J, you wouldn't happen to have a link to that Mahalia radio doc? I would love to hear it.

I think this is the link to the programme

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01gvn23

it's on the BBC so it might be blocked to people outside the UK.

That's as of right now. I don't think a countdown is required.

Yes. Aces. And of course Aretha's Amazing Grace is as well.

Listened to the radio doc last night. Great stuff. I was a radio junkie in college--working/running my college's station. Thought I wanted to make a career out of it. Things like this, make me wish I would've stayed the course. Thank goodness there are people dedicated to the craft. Its becoming a lost art form.
