Played "Hell No I Ain't Happy" on Craig Kilborn and "Never Gonna Change" & "Carl Perkins' Cadillac" on some local morning show on Atlanta's Fox affiliate (I think). They also played a whole hour or so on some German TV show, I used to have a DVD of that, but I have no clue where it is now.

Can somebody please explain to me what the hell is going on with Shonna's bass sound? They've become unlistenable to me live because of it. It's distracting to the point that I can't hear the band as a unit. Am I the only one hearing it? It's heartbreaking to me because I used to love the chemistry between Shonna and Brad so much. There are countless posts from me on the old board waxing poetic about how phenomenal those two sounded together. At one point in '06 I think I referred to them as my favorite rhythm section in rock and roll. Listen to the Fallon Birthday Boy...that bomp-bomp thing she does all the way through would be okay, but with that tone it makes it sound horribly flappy and uneven to me. Especially on the low end. There's no fluidity to it at all. Wtf? Somebody help me out here. I love Shonna and up until this recent stretch I've always loved her playing. I don't get it at all.

I just watched this again and had forgotten how awful it was. I couldn't get past 20 seconds. You really love it, huh? Aftermath USA was good on Conan...it would be nice to find that.

The first 30 seconds or so are rough. Patterson's guitar is out of tune, and his vocals, well... I love his voice, but it wasn't made for one-off TV appearances. He needs 3-4 songs to get warmed up. I think it comes together by the end, but all in all kind of a wasted opportunity. They should've just played A Ghost to Most. If you've got 4 minutes to win over a TV audience, Cooley's the man for the job.

Duke pretty much nailed it. The guitar sounds out of tune, and Patterson's voice really sounds rough. I love the song but it just is not a great performance, in my opinion.

I just uploaded a very bad quality copy of them doing Hell No on the Late Late show.
Nice! I haven't seen that one. Thanks for uploading it.

wow gerg! Is this something you've picked up on live as well?
TV sounds blows to begin with, so I wouldn't hold that against her....

I feel like her bass is mixed really, really low live, and isn't terribly present on the albums either

I didn't notice it at the Freebird the last time they were there, but did notice it at the the Jack Daniels Music Farm show. But the sound at that show was rough all the way around.
I love Shonna...for real. Of course, I have nothing but love for her. Listen to the Birthday Boy from Fallon or the Ghost to Most from ACL. Those are perfect examples of what I'm talking about. I'm shocked I'm the first one to bring it up. It almost sounds like the volume is too much for the amp and the speaker cone is fluttering. Obviously, that's not the case but that's close to describing the sound I'm talking about.

You ain't the first, I remember a whole thread dedicated to her shitty bass sound a few months ago

added "Everybody Needs Love" on Fallon to the first post.
Still looking for video of "Aftermath USA" and "Never Gonna Change" on Conan.
That is pretty awesome, I don't know if it's quite triple post awesome, but it is awesome.
