In hindsight there are a million hints dropped in their last few albums.

On Jason’s side there’s the resignation that Amanda wasn’t joining him in sobriety that comes through as annoyance on It Gets Easier, and exasperation on Death Wish.

Fault Lines by Amanda has a line about Flagship being a fake version of Jason.

And then there’s the doc. Seems like a long time coming.

They actually separate briefly in the doc. She moves into a hotel for a bit. Jason pushes her out of the creative process a ton.

Then you have the substance use thing. Everyone knows Jason’s story, and it feels like in every scene of the doc Amanda either has a weed pen or a glass of wine. I don’t think she has a problem, but it almost comes off as a taunt.

Her song “Fault Lines” kinda explicitly rips him, and his song “Death Wish” isn’t as obviously about her, but it kinda has to be.
