Y'all heard about this ?

https://www.npr.org/sections/allsongs/2 ... first-time

Always loved his version of The Assassin.

Looking forward to finally having studio versions of these.

Since he hasn’t tweeted about it I’m guessing he’s not pumped.

Yeah, I doubt Jason is on board with this release. Think there is a lot of bad blood between NW and DBT... (see Assholes)...
I'm glad as well to finally have good studio versions of these songs.
Whisper and Assassin were always 2 of my favorites from back in the day.
Used to dig when Jason would do Assassin and 9 Bullets at the DBT shows.
How the heck did either one of these get left off of that first album??

Glad to have all these studio versions.

Sirens is my favorite Jason album, and if you had placed these tracks in for a few of the weaker ones, I think more people would share that opinion.

It's my favorite album of his too, but good lord, the production is atrocious and makes it hard to listen to.

I hear people say this all the time and I don't really get it. Sirens sounds pretty ok to me.

Other than maybe Southeastern, it's the record of his that I play the most, so I'm really looking forward to these tracks. The two on NPR sound great.

You're not the first person to make that observation, but I've never been bothered by it or found it to be a flaw. I know it wasn't recorded in any kind of cohesive fashion, but it doesn't seem that obvious to me.

I am just curious why Jason would not be excited for this release? I guess it's something I missed along the way.

Because New West owns the tracks, and Southeastern was his first album on his own label. He may get songwriting royalties, but nothing on the sales.

They gave him a contract and put out the record that put him on the map. Unless they ripped him off, doesn't make much sense to me.

Good luck on getting agreement what songs are the weaker ones that should be replaced...

Down In A Hole and Devil Is My Running Mate. Add these.

I might keep Devil and just have a longer album.

He seems more concerned with micromanaging every aspect of his career (as is his right) and judging by his tweets he was extremely pissed off at NW for reissuing that live ep ahead of his Ryman release.

Same here. But I don't really care about production and never understand why it's an issue to people.

Heads up. I ordered the reissue on vinyl and while the labels are correct, both discs have the tracks for disc 2. That being said it was nice hearing John Neff all over The Assassin.
