Does he still play the Magician, the Blue, Streetlights and In a Razor Town?

I would say anything from his first two records, or anything from his DBT days that isn't on Decoration Day or the Dirty South. This thread might as well be called The Wishful Thinking thread bc he's not going to play any of his older songs for a while. He's found his niche and it's working pretty well for him. No need to revisit the songs he used to play in bars for a $10 cover charge (though I wish he would).

Try, Down in a Hole, Hurricanes and Hand Grenades, Cigarettes and Wine. I loved the first album from day 1 and hate that Dress Blues is the only song he still plays from it. Of course, Dress Blues is a classic.

Yeah I doubt he would play the Assassin for his new crowd, but I would be thrilled if he did. Ditto Superman.

Try, and ANYTHING from the self-titled 400 album, which is his best imo

Not sure where to stick this, and the answer might be obvious, but has Jason played any (non-JI) DBT or PH live other than The Assassin early on? He used to give the occasional props to PH and DBT - does he still do that?

By the way, back in the day between the TDS and ABAAC there was a stretch of shows where Jason sang "Nine Bullets". I would mark the fuck out if he broke that out again.

No because 99% of his current audience wouldn't know who he was talking about.

Agree that most of his new audience doesn't know a lot about DBT but he still mentions them by name at almost every show I go to.

What does he say, generally? It might be time for him to cover Heathens or WWW at a show.

Agreed. On the other side of things, I would love to see DBT do Decoration Day. What hurts is you'd be missing Isbell's incendiary playing on this, but with Jay I think it could go over well.

if they were to cover Isbell, I think they would need to cover a song from his post-DBT career. I think playing something like DD or Outfit would be kinda shitty w/o him, although I can't articulate why.

However, a Super 8 or Alabama Pines would be in good taste and very respectful.

I kind of wish artists regularly covered songs by their peers the way they did "back in the day". That's one thing I've always liked about Isbell, who's covered Todd Snider's "Play a Train Song", Mark Kozelek's "Glenn Tipton", McMurtry's "Rachel's Song" and "Levelland", Ryan Adams' "Jacksonville Skyline", Will Johnson's "Just to Know What You've Been Dreaming", Ray LaMontagne's "Jolene", and my personal favorite Malcolm Holcombe's "Dressed in White".
