How's the vinyl? Much different sound quality? Local store had cd for 8, vinyl for 30, went with CD.

And it's maybe important to keep ahold of one song you hate. Leaves room to grow into it... hahaha
I think hearing it on vinyl was part of what made it click. The production is deceptively rich and warm. Sneaks up on you. I balked at the $30 price tag, but I'm a completist. Wouldn't be able to sleep at night having part of his catalog on CD, part on vinyl.
$30 for a single LP!?!? that's a domestic pressing?

Fuck. That. Shit.

Damn tight spot to try to fit into.
If I'm not mistaken, Jason goes by his middle name and his first name is Michael like his dad. I could've sworn I've seen or read that before.

Yup. For example, scroll to the bottom of the Codeine lyrics for the publishing info. "Written by Isbell, Michael Jason."

Wikipedia doesn't note his name as anything other than Jason
And I knew when I woke up Rock N Roll would be here forever

I saw that too, and it is quite impressive. I wonder what charts he is referencing though. It's not Billboard.
nor it is iTunes download charts...
Yeah, it's Billboard. Now #1 across a bunch of categories. Good for him.

Looking up lyrics back in the day must be how I stumbled across it. Formal songwriting credits definitely list his first name as Michael. For example, I just did a quick google search and found that "Feb 14" is credited to "John Michael Cooley; Patterson David Hood; Michael Jason Isbell; Bradley Scott Morgan; Shonna Lee Tucker."

I guess I figured Wikipedia was the be-all, end-all authority on that-- silly me.

Yeah, it's ridiculous. Wilco's are all priced that way too. Luckily there are only 2-3 bands who can make me pull the trigger at that price.

That said, seeing the preacher stare out the window makes me wonder if the line "thank God for the work" means:
1) I am happy to have work
2) God did a nice job creating this life

Guess I will wait for the Isbell SOTW thread...

I suspect it might be the same response were you to call him "Mike" or "Cooley"

I'm just surprised I've never stumbled across that in my 8ish years of 9B/3DD

I bet if someone were to start an Isbell message board it would be a success, especially at this stage of his career. By the way, that's not meant as a slight or criticism, just a suggestion.

I agree with you. This is a terrible video…screams "truck commercial" from beginning to end.

As someone who hasn't set foot in a church for 15 years this is a weird thing to call out, but the line "Sunday morning I'm too tired to go to church" kinda bugs me.

My grandfather worked the same factory job for 40 years and rarely, if ever, missed a Sunday morning. My dad did similar work and I know for sure "I'm too tired" never flew on Sundays in our house growing up.

I meant the video and not the song. Though I'm not a fan of the song either.

I edited my post to say "truck commercial" rather than "bro-country" as I think that's more accurate.

I can live with that description. Not enough boobs and beer for a bro-country video
