Any guesses on what song they will perform? Any wishes on what song they will perform?

Traveling Alone would be my guess. Amanda is really essential to that one on the record.

They're will probably be one or two web only songs too.

Apparently it's Letterman's choice.

From his twitter feed:

@JasonIsbell I ask Dave. RT @gregscrews: @JasonIsbell How do you decide what song to do on Letterman?

Letterman is a big JI/DBT fan. He and Paul came down to AL for the recording of JI's live album.

If I'm not mistaken he also had Jason perform at some private function out in Montana or somewhere within the last year or so.

He played Stockholm. Wasn't mixed well, couldn't really hear the vocals, but that might just be my TV...

Sounded OK to me on Letterman's website this morning. Will have to see if it sounds any different on my DVR when I get home.
It's been documented, but you can really tell how much of a fan Letterman really is.
Would have loved to have seen them play "Flying Over Water'...

Any clue if they played any extra tracks again this time? Didn't notice anything on the Letterman site.

I know he let's Letterman pick the song he plays, but not the greatest song to promote the album

I don't know about that. I saw say on FB that they were sure he would play something uptempo like Stockholm or Super 8. I love Super 8 but I don't think that one is very indicative of the record where Stockholm really is. He pulled it off and probably made some new fans.

I'm biased because its my least favorite song on the record, but I don't think Stockholm really "teaches" new listeners what Jason is all about

I kind of agree with whoever said the vocals were mixed too low. The thing I love most about the studio version of "Stockholm" is the harmony vocals, especially during the bridge. I saw Jason in Chattanooga a few weeks ago and I thought he and Chad pulled it off pretty well there. But something seemed to be missing last night and that was with three voices.

I personally think Jason cursed himself with the Dierks incident. A good number of his songs since then have been very derivative.

Not my favorite track from the album but I suppose the performance was nice enough. Sometimes I run really hot and cold with Isbell.

Can you explain this in a bit more detail? Not being defensive, but I'm not sure what you mean.

Smitty, correct me if i am misinterperting you but...

lyrics aside, his music has been a tad on the generic side and/or variations off of preexisting melody/song structure.
Never going back to Buttholeville. (Good luck with that!)

To a degree, perhaps in that they have a beginning middle and end...but come on. how could you classify HLRITD as generic musically?

"Travelling Alone" apes John Prine's "Hello in There" for one of the verses; "Super 8" does the same with Hayes Carll's "Another Like You". "Stockholm"="New York, New York" (RA). "Codeine"="Wagon Wheel"

They're almost all as obvious as Dierks' "Home" was.

Maybe his own structures, but that's a totally different thing. DBT examples would be "Marry Me" (which is so bad ass it gets a pass) and "When the Well Runs Dry".
