9:30 club? Anyone?

Post by beantownbubba »

Yeah I know it’s not called that but you know here I mean and assuming things went according to plan there was a rock show there last nite. I know the band was on fire and I’m sure the people were great but how about some deets? Set list?

DOH! Thanks. I don't know why I still don't think of checking there.

And yes indeed, to the extent that a setlist can tell the tale this sure looks like quite a show. Like "All Along the Watchtower" during many years of Dylan's "neverending tour," seeing "Righteous Path" in the #3 slot makes all seem right w/ the world.

"Mercy Buckets" opener. Wow. Wish I was there.

A little surprised there was no Robbie R tribute but that should not take away from what seems like a terrific rock show.

Comments from those who were there welcome.

Looks like a huge chunk of the show is on YouTube.

Wow. Tiny club. Unless you were hanging out by the bar off to the side, you probably weren't more than 35-40 feet away. Got there for the sound check and bounced around checking out the sound. They've really invested in the system (spoke with an employee who said the space was designed around the system). Vocals were clear and you could discern what each guitarist was playing even when all three were wailing. No muddiness to the bass, all notes were distinct. I found the best sound to be dead center on the rail of the low overhanging balcony (not more than 35' from the stage) and that's where Allison and I watched the show. The fellas were all well rested after a few months off and were itching to hit the stage. The amazing clarity of the sound allowed me to appreciate each individual's playing and honestly, all five of them put on a clinic. I've always answered the question "What was your favorite show?" with the "next one"(maybe a bit facetiously). However, the past few years, the band has been playing at such a high level, it's hard to chose one show over another. I will say that about an hour and 10' in I turned to Allison and said "I feel like we've already had a full on rock show. So yeah, this one was a little cut above. With the exception of a slight (one hour) rain delay getting out of Charlotte, it was an easy peasy in and out trip. So glad I made it.
Always go to the show

Kicking myself for not going to this one.
The Atlantis is great, I saw Yo La Tengo there earlier this summer.
