First Grand Rapids show in 15 years… yay! Will be the first time I’ll be able to walk to a rock show.

I presume this means they’re taking the summer off? Interesting.

In for the Maryville show in September. In case anyone needs convincing, it’s the world’s best covered outdoor venue located in a Harley-Davidson dealership that somehow has fantastic sound.

I hope to make that one as well.

Burnsville MN sounds interesting. That's closer than Chicago for me and has the added benefit of not being Chicago.

I thought you liked seeing steaming guts on the ground.

I'm indifferent to that at this point. The traffic, though.

I'll be in Huntington 9/27, likely after driving in NYC rush hour traffic.

Hey, man. How you doing? Good to see you. I think you'll be surprised by the rock show these days. It's not all that different, yet it is. (That's not a complaint; the band is playing as well as it ever has).

Thanks for asking sir! Doing well. Saw the band last year at Bourbon and Beyond for a short set and in March this year. Hope you are doing well!

Was hoping to do Omaha-Bloomington-Chicago, but forced to curtail plans and will just zip up to Bloomington instead. I know Dean's hitting Chicago. Who all will I see at The Castle?

I'm up in the air on this one. Considering it but I also have so much stuff going on this month that it might be best for me to hang close to home rather than spend 16 hours in the car on one of the weekends.

I've got tickets to the Huntington show, and the next night (not listed here) on the Rooftop at Pier 17 on the East River here in NYC. It's American Aquarium, DBT, and Old 97s "30-Year Anniversary" show. 6 PM first band, hard 10 PM curfew! Shit, I'll be home in bed before 11!

So I saw the show in Grand Rapids on Tuesday night. I believe it was the first time the band played Grand Rapids since 2008 (Patterson had actually asked the audience at one point if they had ever played Grand Rapids before lol). I was not at the 2008 show so it was special being able to see them in my town for the first time. I really loved this show. As I will post below, the set list was a lean, mean machine and it played out how it looks. There just seemed to be an extra special fire to their performance this night. Those three guitars just seemed to blaze a little hotter. The crowd wasn't the biggest they've played to but it was an enthusiastic one and the band fed off it. We were rewarded with a rare play of 18 Wheels of Love, complete with the story. Something that really stuck out to me about this show was how the songs were unpredictably placed in the set. Stuff like Hell No in the mid set. Puttin' People late. Forged in Hell after Birthday Boy instead of what everyone in the room thought would be Righteous Path. I love spontaneity like that. I enjoyed the show from some distance but saw an opening on the rail towards the end so I took advantage. Prior to the band going into angels, Patterson said "this will be our last song." Before he could get another word in, I yelled "Road Cases!" (for no particular reason, it's just one of my faves and I've never seen them do it). Patterson laughed and said "not tonight but maybe next time we come back." I'm going to hold him to that. One other random thing I must mention, I think The Driver is AMAZING live. It's an instant classic and should make any DBT "best of" collection. I hope this is one that will stick around for years to come. The only disappointment of the evening was American Aquarium only playing for 30 minutes, as they sounded really good. Show time was 7:30 and they didn't start until 7:45 so perhaps that's what screwed them. I don't have exact set times for DBT but I believe they played about 2 hours and 10 minutes, starting around 8:45ish

Thanks for the report, good sir.

Yeah, you haven't heard "The Driver" until you've heard it live.

Just one of those bizarre coincidences that I guess comes from thinking about the band more than most (non-HeAthens anyway) lol, but I was just wondering yesterday if "Forged in Hell" was getting any love. I haven't been looking at set lists, always hoping we'll get some reports like yours here, so maybe they're playing it every night but if so I'm not aware.

You're right about the song placements; it's good for the band and good for the audience too. Non-predictability and shaking things up are good for their own sake, but also sometimes hearing a song in the context of the ones before or after sheds some new light or perspective on it and it's always fun when that happens.

Glad you enjoyed.

According to Worldwide, “Forged in Hell” has been played one other time live—in 2015!

This weekend’s Maryville, TN show was an awesome time. Great venue in the Shed, fantastic opening performance from American Aquarium, and DBT rocked for a solid 2+ hours. Margo & Harold, Runaway Train, and Billy Ringo were some of the standouts to my ears, but as always, there was truly something for everyone on Friday night.

You would have never known it considering A. How well it played and B. It was on the latest album; I just assumed it was something they had been playing since the release of Club 13. It had a really nice jam at the end. Unfortunately, I didn't see a taper and it hasn't appeared on Youtube, so I guess that means Patterson needs to play it again. 8-)

The sets continue to look great. I LOVE that Runaway Train is back in the mix. I wish they would play AHC songs more often, especially 6 O'Clock Train, Shot Rang Out, and Cemeteries.

Pining for more shows now. Homecoming announcement and Spring dates can't come soon enough.

Really good show last night. Lots of rarities, which is always appreciated after 40+ shows. Was about a 2.5hr set.
And all in the swanky Paramount Theater, which frankly seemed characteristically out of place, but also totally welcome and perhaps even overdue.
Band has been saving my life for 20 years and they saved it again last night.

Hadn't seen American Aquarium in several years, since before this new version of the band.
Kudos to BJ for puttin' in the work. They sounded better than ever.
