Narrative, absolutely. The meter and phrasing to me is a little looser than pleases my ears. Relatively speaking! I still adore the song.beantownbubba wrote: ↑Thu Nov 17, 2022 3:21 pmLoaded Gun? Meander-y?! That surprises me. The narrative seems tight to me, w/ nary an extraneous word and each image indelible. Ambiguous, yes, but in the best way. But we each hear what we hear and interpret what we hear in our own ways. Or as my mother used to say, "that's what makes horseracing."

Re: PH & Cooley Solo Shows, November and December
Cooley was in very good spirits in Philly last night. Thoughts:
Cooley standing up and prowling the stage instead of sitting makes it a much more lively show
I appreciate that he likes to change up his arrangements on these solo tours but I still think his songs sound best in their traditional arrangements. Or maybe that's just how I'm more comfortable hearing them. Women Without Whiskey and Zip City were unrecognizable until he started singing. On the other hand, Pulaski, Space City, Carl Perkins (!!!), Uncle Frank and Primer Coat, in their original stripped down arrangements, were gorgeous.
It was a relatively well attended show with a smattering of heathens in the crowd.
He ended the night with Once They Banned Imagine which isn't exactly a head banger but somehow really brought the house down and was a great closer.
Was kinda funny to see Cooley working the merch table by himself. He looked a little stressed honestly, wearing his reading glasses, laying out his shirts, setting up an ipad, etc.
I struck up a convo with a dude who was recording the show and it turned out to be fokker who you old timers might remember as an OG 9b/3dd taper. Was good to see him and he told me he was plugged directly into the soundboard so I'm sure his recording will be great
City Winery is a great venue, looking fwd to seeing P Hood there next month.
Also while I'm posting photos here's a trout I caught this week

You'd make a great merch guy, Clams. Huge missed opportunity.

Re: PH & Cooley Solo Shows, November and December
Cooley and I joked about having reading glasses hanging off of every damn part of us.
I think that was one of the reasons he was pretty grateful that I stepped in on Wednesday. While he's perfectly capable of hitting a button, surely...he'd rather not be his own merch dude!

And you can see my OCD handiwork: the shirts wrapped in rubber bands by size. OCD CAN be a POSITIVE thing!

I, for one, am relieved to know that our brother, word man, has a career in fashion merchandise consulting on which to fall back if the concert reporting industry goes dry!

Damn I love seeing this thread. Been too long without DBT discussion!
Excited for Cooley on 12/9 and 10 during his Colorado run. Halfway explored doing a swing out to Portland for Patterson, but that's looking less than likely at this point.
