I first saw Wes' art on the cover of a compilation album from Yep Roc records in 1997 called Revival Vol. II: Kudzu n' Hollerin' Contest which is also where I first heard his music (Dirtball) as well as that of the Truckers (an acoustic version of "Nine Bullets"). Per an old interview with Wes, they had yet to meet at this point. That would happen about a year later at Bubbapalooza. Soon after, they became regulars at the Capital City Barn Dance in Richmond where Wes was living. The rest as they say is history. In 2018, WTVR did this feature on him.
