Throughout periods of 2009, the Drive-By Truckers entered the studio and emerged with two albums worth of material. The songs were divided between March 16, 2010's release The Big To Do and the upcoming Drive-By Trucker "R&B Murder Album" Go-Go Boots (which is currently slated for a late 2010 release).
They've been playing "Ray's Automatic Weapon" fairly often. My guess is that more songs from the next album will be in the sets this fall. I've heard a Patterson solo show where he played the title track which is pretty awesome. About a preacher who is screwing around. "I Used To Be a Cop" is another cool song from the new album. A cop who has lost everything -- job, home, family -- is sneaking around at night peeking in windows.
I have nowhere else to go. There is no demand in the priesthood for elderly drug addicts
here's the songs "rumored" to be on there so far that I know of (from interviews/live shows):
Fireplace Poker Used To Be a Cop Assholes Unknown Cooley song (classic Statler Bros-type country song) Dancing Ricky Go-Go Boots Ray's Automatic Weapon
I've only heard Ray's Automatic Weapon (awesome), Used To Be A Cop (version I heard was from a Patterson solo show and was just ok...hopefully DBT flesh it out a bit), and I think I've heard Assholes, but I don't remember it. Early live versions of the TBTD tracks didn't make much of an impression on me either (and I love that album), so go figure.
Sounds like Jason and DBT will both have albums out around the same time, if they both stick with the "early 2011" release date.
From the few I've heard, it seems most of Patterson's songs for Go-Go Boots are in the "Belvedere"/"Wig He Made Her Wear" vein. Those songs are cool, but I can't go for a whole album of it. Just talking over creepy, awesome guitar riffs.

I'm hope I'm way, way off base here.
I could dig it either way, but I wouldn't call Assholes, Ray's Automatic Weapon or even Used to be a Cop "just talking".

not even flowy enough for your tastes?
Upon further review I'm really enjoying Used to Be A Cop. Ray's Automatic Weapon has a great riff, but Assholes hasn't made much of an impression yet.
At first, when Patterson kept talking about GGB as their "R&B/murder ballad" album, I wasn't too excited. Sounded to me like it was gonna be a bunch of variations on "Wig" (my least favorite "type" of DBT song), and it was hard to picture how Cooley would fit into that.
But after hearing Everybody Needs Love, Ray's Automatic Weapon, and Used to Be a Cop (and Shonna's songs, which don't thrill me, but at least play to her strengths), gotta say I'm getting more and more excited. And we haven't even heard the Cooley song(s, hopefully) yet. I think GGB might be a classic in the making.
Noone's mentioned Patterson's "I Do Believe" - just saw it on this show, alsum tune!
Fireplace Poker - PH Used To Be a Cop - PH Assholes -PH Unknown Cooley song (classic Statler Bros-type country song) Dancing Ricky - ST Go-Go Boots - PH Ray's Automatic Weapon - PH Mercy Buckets - PH I Do Believe - PH Everybody Needs Love - PH Where's Eddie? - ST
So is this shaping up as heavy on the Patterson and light on the Cooley songs? Would be the second in a row like that. I'm not complaining, I'm just sayin.
