This show summed up in a word: awful. Terrible energy, an awful crowd (thought I was at a morgue), ridiculously terrible sound (holy bass!) and the set list was pedestrian at best. Segues were off all night. “Ronnie and Neil” into “Made Up English Oceans?” Like, what? Getting “The New Ok” in the “Boys of Alabama” slot was straight up offensive. No banter at all from Hood. Couldn’t tell who wanted to be there less: the crowd or the band.

Wow. It's been a long, long time since I've seen this negative a review in these parts. That's too bad and surprising. But I don't get the part about the "Boys From Alabama" slot. Is there such a thing?

This show was anything but awful.

The crowd: who gives a fuck? I was paying attention to the stage. There were definitely some drunk people behind me who were having a grand old time.
The sound: the sound is always awful at the Majestic, but I thought this was the best-sounding show I'd ever seen there. Not great, but fine. It helps to stand up front where you can hear what coming off the stage; farther back, everything gets lost in the cavernous environs.
Setlist: I truly can't comprehend all this teeth-gnashing about the setlist. They still seem to be mixing it up plenty from night to night. It's "straight up offensive" that they would dare play one song from their most recent album? Strong setlist if you ask me; Cooley's song choices were on point all night. I guess this is subjective, but I've seen them enough times that I don't care what they play. Some nights the greatest hits are highlights and some nights it's the deep cuts.
The band: seems like total projection here. They were acting like themselves and seemed like they were having a good time to me.
