In. I told myself all through the pandemic I'd make the first headlining show, and I aim to make good on it. It helps that it's a hop, skip, and jump from me in Denver. Flight and accommodations are booked. Now just need that ticket.

Anybody been to this venue? Any kind of lame-ass noise limitations I should be aware of (thinking of the Boulder Chautauqua shows)?

I’ve seen dozens of great shows at Red Butte Gardens, including the epic Booker T and the DBT’s show in 2009 with none other than WWCD. RBG is a spectacular 3000 capacity venue sitting next to the foothills near the U of U. Very relaxed atmosphere. Bring a cooler with whatever the hell you want. Lawn seating (bring a low profile chair) and relatively easy access, although you may want to Lyft, as parking can lead to some long hikes. Best not to snooze on tix as I’m sure the demand from locals as well as out-of-towners will be substantial. Expect a face melter, I’m sure the boys will be foaming at the mouth after such a long hiatus. Also, many heartfelt thanks to Patterson Hood for making good on his promise to “bring my band back here and blow the doors off the place.”

I'm assuming given the location (and that it's a Sunday) it'll probably be a relatively early show?

7PM or something like that maybe? My flight gets in about 11AM should I should be fine.

Doors 6:30, show at 7:30. They also added Cha Wa as an opener, which is exciting to me. Love that new record of theirs.

Nice yeah I was just trolling my daughter when I told her I got us tickets thinking she would roll her fourteen year old eyes at me and i would be rolling solo but she politely accepted, what do ya know, the kid needs some rock too! It’s no surprise considering her first show was McMurtry at seven. Days old that Is. plus a bunch of DBT shows.

Yeah, I can appreciate this reasonable long view now that my buttcrack is dry.

If I'd been stuck in the downpour, I'd be in a worse mood, but I lucked out. Turned out I'd Will Called my tickets and not phone displayed them, so there I was headed back to the end of the line. I decided to go to the car, wait till the light sprinkle I'd expected was over, and waltz in to a good listening spot, forgoing being up close. It was sad watching the people I'd just seen walking up the hill, expecting the same light rain, walk back down much faster. I felt especially bad for the ones with kids. So instead I'm pissed about being in a hotel room that is under renovation--not just the hotel, but the room itself.

They are not, but we will persevere. First order of business today is to find a laundromat (once it stops raining) to get some things dried out before we head out to the airport. I live in Denver, so at least it was a short flight for me yesterday morning.

Plus, we had to be out of the house this weekend anyway to sell it. We signed the contract between dinner and the “show” last night. We met one of our goals for the weekend!
