Jay has a new solo record coming out March 5th (Digital only, vinyl a few months later)!

Preorders and the first single are up on Bandcamp:

I did a little but of work on this project, which involved giving the album many, many listens, and it really holds up.

If you liked Mess of Happiness, you're going to REALLY like this.

Im guessing Jay doesnt contribute any songwriting to DBT because he saves it for his solo work?

Thats a real shame.

Any song whose video features that much fur baby action is a winner in my book.

Also for the musicians out there, there is a songbook, with, well, all the songs on it.

I did some of the transcriptions and all of the engraving, formatting, layout etc.

Yeah it is. That was one of the first ones I transcribed for the book so I really spent a lot of quality time with.

The glam rock outro is my favorite bit of the record.

Finally came out of the Rust Bucket long enough to listen to this. Pretty good. Way poppier than I was expecting which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I mentioned this to Uncle Rickey yesterday, but after a few "just listening" listens, I kinda went into "analyze" mode yesterday, and what impresses me so much about the record, is that while you CAN simply experience it as suface-y pop brilliance, which is wonderful in and of itself, there is so much care taken in the little variations, surprises, melodic and arrangement left-turns, that the record becomes something more in addition to its obvious and manifold pop charms.

It's smart, sweet, open-hearted, and superbly crafted in every second of its 28 minutes.
