Crash and Ride - Patterson Hood Interview

Post by hippy69 »

Not sure if you all knew about this interview. Three Dime Down's work even gets a mention, it's how I found this community.

"This week's episode is an interview I've been wanting to do for a long time! I spoke with Patterson Hood, singer/guitar player/songwriter from the band Drive-By Truckers! We talked about the wear and tear that touring puts on your brain, your relationships, your gear, and everything else! We talked about love and loss, and regrets. We talked about how amazing Nuci Space is! It's a good talk and I'm super proud of it!"

Can’t wait to listen to this. The episode with Ryley Walker was one of my favorite podcasts in a long time.

Just finished listening. Excellent. Best Patterson interview I’ve heard. As a long time hard core fan I know a lot about the guy but I of course don’t know him. After listening to this I feel like I know him. It didn’t feel like an interview at all. It felt like I was hearing a phone conversation between Patterson and a friend. I mean to the point that I almost felt bad about it like I was eves dropping.

Thanks mate. It's not me though. It's all the work of Patrick Ferguson, drummer with Athens, GA's own Five Eight.

I'm not a podcast guy, but damn I may have to listen to this now.

Absolutely great interview. The backpack story from NYC is astounding. So much great stuff here.

And I hope Earl Hicks is listening somewhere, somehow...

After listening to that interview, I'm 100% sure that "Goodbye" is about Earl.

You know what, I didn’t even think about that while listening to the interview but I bet you’re right. Interesting to find out exactly who Do It Yourself and WhenThe Pin Hits The Shell are about. I knew they were about the same person but wow. Also good to hear that things between Patterson and Shonna and Neff are in a much better place.

As for Earl Hicks, I remember reading somewhere on this board one time that he won’t even talk about his time in Driveby Truckers. I can’t remember who said that but I would put my money on Smitty to know something like that if I were a betting man.

Fantastic interview/conversation. Thanks for the link!

Agreed on the NYC backpack story and the other comments above. Listening to that was time well spent.

Took me a while but I finally listened. Patterson was really up front and honest. I fucking groaned out loud when Patterson told the story about their van being broken into outside of CBGB’s!
