Charlotte Sept 21.

Post by notjosephstalin »

Anyone going to be at the Neighbourhood Theatre for the DBT show on Sept 21, 2019?

I'm on a 5 day road trip and spending 2 nights in Charlotte, NC.

I turn 50 on the 17th so my friend is coming along to drive my corpse back home when I attempt to party at half the pace I used to.

^^Slight edit, me and CG are still pondering the Greenville show that night, but we'll definitely be there for the Charlotte show.

I found an air bnb one block from the venue. Hope the heat doesn't kill me. Already daytime highs here are only 70 and night time lows of 55

Excellent show last night! I'll try and get the recording up later today. Still an hour from home...

I'm having trouble at the moment hearing them in my mind's ear, but I feel like at least thematically Babies in Cages and Ramon make for a really good "couplet."

And what about the rest a youse? I know you were there. How about some feedback for the deprived?

I wasn't there either, but Red Celt and Mrs. Red Celt said it was mighty fine---specifically mentioned solos in Goodes Field Road.

Wife-So, another great show?
Me-Yes (sigh)
Wife-UhHuh

Standing next to Brett all night. He turns to me about 3-4 songs in and says”they’re on tonight”. Me- “This band has been on since American Band was released”. Brett-“Yeah, you’re right”.

De rigueur as it may be to praise the shows around here, I’ve got to say that the band has been at the top of their game for at least the last 3 years. BTW this is my favorite iteration of the band. For 2&1/2 hours, all is right with the world. I’m at the Rock Show.

Last night’s show was was a powerhouse from the get go. The boys were having a grand old time and the packed house (must have been a sellout) was zoned in right from the start. Even the laid back tunes had a high level of intensity with plenty of intricacies. A keyboard power chord , a skip on the snare, reverberating open string pluck and Cooley tickling shit. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention Patterson’s incredible solo in Babies in Cages and a Three Dimes Down that felt like being run over by a locomotive

Another great show?
FUCK YEAH
Always go to the show

The Charlotte show was what I call a standard outstanding DBT show. What I mean by that is there weren't any real surprises, no real rarities, and the set wasn't extra long. But (and this is important) it was a fantastic, monster show. The venue was packed, the crowd was hot, and the band was on fire. I don't care how many times I hear something like Three Dimes Down, when the band is ON every song kicks your ass, and Three Dimes Down certainly did Saturday night.

I think sometimes we heathens are a bit spoiled. The band is so consistently great that if they play a "standard" set or don't play 35 songs we feel like it wasn't a great show. The problem I run into is finding ways to describe them. We come off like fanboys because it seems like every show we see we describe as INCREDIBLE and AMAZING. Well, sometimes there are bands that truly are incredible damn near every night. And DBT is one of those bands. I'm glad they're my favorite band.
