We don't have that guy anymore but we have a different Ford and he's just as heinous as the original one and he is devoted to the Trump playbook.

Well that's THE BEST news! I am super excited! I will most definitely drag my sorry ass back from La Belle Province now.

I have fucked up my back so I haven't ridden a horse properly THIS YEAR. It feels like the rug has been pulled out from under me because usually I'm pretty focused on training and goals and competition, so right now I'm like, "Who am I and what am I going to do this summer?" But of course I am still paying for my horse, so I can't afford to fuck off to Europe or anything. This information makes me very happy!

Are you traveling with the lovely, highly interesting and delightful Mrs.? I would love to hang with her too. I'm making reservations at some great dinner spots now!

Yay!

I don't know much about Toronto having only been there once, but one thing I'm sure of is that there's no shortage of good bars and etc's.

Anybody know long ago board member April Twister? She lives in Toronto, or at least used to and I wonder whether she'll be at the show(s). She was at the last Toronto show I was at.

4th Of July crowd already wore me out. My town swells from 2000 to 20000 this week. DBT Canada is a brilliant escape option. Red Sox Blue Jays this evening.

Good news! Alas, to balance that, MK is a late scratch. She needs to stay home w/ Harper who is going through some more tough doggie times.

Setlist speaks for itself. Epic.

I absolutely loved Heroin Again. I thought the song was forgotten so it was great to hear Patterson say it’ll be on the new record and then just slay that version.

Other than that, I genuinely can’t talk highlights because the whole show was something else. I guess you know you’re in for it with a Devil opener.

I was told there was a taper in the house. This is very good news.

Epic set indeed. Cooley playing with a pick is a refreshing change to the ever evolving evolution of our band. And I hadn’t noticed Patterson had thrown his pick out into the audience but I felt it bounce off my arm. I found it on the ground and a fellow was very happy for me and I asked him if he wanted it and he said yes and was super stoked about that. Surreal to have two more nights to go.
Thanks as always to UR for posting the set list.

Sorry, ponygirl, but you had to know this was coming: The band was on fire and the people were great.

Really :)

Wow. That was a show to remember, complete with, as uncle rickey noted, an earned encore, which turned into a fiery "Rockin' in the Free World" which both honored Neil Young in his sort of hometown and also got in a mention of the "red, white and blue" on the 4th of July. Not a lot of Independence Day political talk but Patterson did express his satisfaction that it apparently rained on the donald's parade. As patterson noted, a lot of people were praying for that to happen and it may have been the first time that "thoughts and prayers" actually worked :)

I am always handicapped when talking about drums and drummers because I know even less about that subject than i do about other instruments. But I don't care; I 'm just going to go ahead and say that Brad was spectacular tonight, possibly the best I've ever heard him. At several points he seemed to be "leading from behind" taking songs in the direction he wanted to go. Very powerful drumming, too.

In some ways it was an appropriate show for a "throwback thursday." The show felt different than recent shows and more like the shows of several years ago: Lots of extended guitar madness and a structure that saw the band reach a peak, plateau, peak again, plateau, etc, about 3 or 4 times, as opposed to the more linear format of most recent shows which sort of start slowly and gradually build to a peak by the end.

Used to be that when the band opened opened w/ "Lookout Mtn" it was pretty much a guarantee of a great show. I'm starting to think that "4th Night" sends the same kind of signal. Not as much of a barn burner as Lookout but it sets a nice groove/tone and it just seems that recent shows which opened that way have been among the better shows.

Thirty songs in about 2 hours and 40 minutes. Outstanding. There were brilliant moments throughout; I'll try to get to some of them tomorrow but a couple of tidbits for now: Loved "Sounds Better in the Song" followed by "Pauline Hawkins", they worked great together. Plus I continue to be knocked out by my recent re-discovery or realization of just how great a song "Sounds Better" is. If u haven't listened in a while and sort of take it for granted, check it out again. Similarly, "My Sweet Annette" was one of the songs which made me fall in love w/ the band originally and it's great to have it back. Tonight's version was just wonderful.

BTW, who was that idiot who said that "Righteous Path" seems to have found a home somewhere between the 2nd and 4th slots? It did more than fine much later in the show tonight.

The show was either sold out or close enough to it that it didn't matter. As is obvious from the "earned encore" the fans were very, very, very into the show and made plenty of noise throughout. :)
