Cooley in NYC Metro (Jersey City/NYC)

Post by glennrwordman »

Who's coming to the NYC area shows?

White Eagle Hall, 12/3 https://www.ticketfly.com/purchase/event/1756915
HIghline Ballroom, 12/5 http://highlineballroom.com/show/2018/1 ... -truckers/

Very much looking forward to it, especially after catching a peek at the Asheville set list JoniCont posted!

Just contacted the hall to make sure: Cooley on at 8 sharp. No opener. (Truly an "Evening With...")

Setlist, for those who like a setlist:

Pulaski
Perfect timing
Filthy and Fried
Self destructive zones
Sounds better in a song
Shit shots
Ramon Casiano
Gravity gone
Eyes like glue
Birthday Boy
Vegas
Cartoon gold
Uncle Frank
72
WWW
Cottonseed
Marry me
English Oceans
Space City
Filthy and re-fried
Panties in your purse
Banned imagine
Surrender under protest

There was a little bit of looking around among us and eyebrows raised when F & F Redux came up. I always wondered if working without a set list might ever cause the band to forget they'd already played one. Maybe not with the full band--I assume one of five might say "hold up!--but with one person I now know it can happen. (It was great the second time, too).

Cooley was in excellent voice; "Sounds Better in The Song" in particular was gorgeous last night. It was also a finger-picking master class. And the crowd, while not huge, was pin-drop quiet during the songs and loud and appreciative after. A fine evening in New Jersey.

I think we might know more after this run of solo shows ends. Something's got to be dropped in order to play "Filthy & Fried" twice... :D

Accurate. It was so good to hear it in a room of people really listening.

Got a kick out of “Make America Cooley Again” tee-shirts.

He played Carl Perkins on Saturday night at Fitzgerald's, the last night of the jaunt.
