Great show last night. I started a set list but because it was dark, I was drinking and I don't see that good anymore, I did not notice my pen wasn't writting  I could read some of the indentations on the paper but some are written on top of others.

I think the first 8 are in correct order after that your guess is as good as mine.
Why Henry Drinks

KKK

LTBR, ending with a perfect guitar pick toss into my beard.*
That's what I can remember. While the band was hot and the room sounds so good, I did not like the 25' space between the band and the front row. The lack of band/crowd interaction was really weird. Even though the stage came out to the seats the mike stands were set up about 25' back with their monitors about 4 or 5' in front of them. Very Strange.
*He didn't toss it 25' Patterson walked out to about 8' of the edge of the stage at the end of the song

Maybe someone had feet and inches mixed up? Just like Spinal Tap, but opposite.

I want to say this was a strange show but I had a great time. Lucinda was billed as headlining but came on before the Truckers. I have always found her to be hit and miss depending on her mood but she and the band were great. She got a standing ovation but did not play an encore. After her performance, about 30-40% of the audience left.

Truckers came on to a very subdued audience. Cooley had a lot of difficulty with his earpiece all night. But something strange happened as the show went on. The audience that was left moved to the front and the band responded in kind. Not the best performance I have seen the band put on but it could have easily been a disaster,

Jay Gonzalez is a monster. Just a fabulous musician and perhaps the most valuable member of the band,

It's my dad's birthday tomorrow. He's coming to the show... will be his second, and first in about 8 years or so.

DBT has been closing all the shows, right? So it's safe to assume they'll be closing in DC tomorrow? With 3 acts and the show starting at 8, would 10:30 be a good guess for the start of DBT's set?

Per Anthem website doors are at 630, show at 800 tonight. So using Tyler's numbers...

Erika at 800-830
Lucinda 845-1000
DBT 1030-1200

I'm going w/ Clams's interpretation of Tyler's numbers. You know who I'm going to blame if that turns out to be wrong.

And thanks, Tyler. I was scratching my head about why nobody was answering my & phungi's questions.

As a great man once said, always go to the show. Always.

This band is so, so good right now it's breathtaking. Even the ordinary is special and when things get special they just keep raising the bar. More tomorrow but a few thoughts:

It wasn't so long ago that if I said that this was the fastest version of "Marry Me" I've heard, it might have been because Cooley skipped a verse or something. Tonight the song was complete, all the parts were there, but OMG it was like the speed metal version. I exaggerate but not by that much.

The funk version of "Goode's Field Road" was its usual spectacular self.

"Women W/out Whiskey" followed by "4th Night" is a cool double. I was hoping for "Why Henry Drinks" next but nope.

This may have been the best version of "What It Means" I've heard but for sure Patterson's monologue/rap was dead on perfect and the best I've heard. Just awesome and the crowd dug it.

I apologize for not knowing the lighting guy's name but I think he was having more fun than anyone else in the building. I don't think he gets to "play" w/ a primo set-up like the Anthem's very often and he took advantage of it. Totally nailed it. Very impressive.

This was my first time seeing Lucinda and I was very disappointed with the first half. The closest one word description I can come up with is a bit harsh but not off by that much: boring. Second half was much, much better and closer to what I was expecting/hoping for.

Goodnite.

Here's the set from the Anthem. My only complaint would the the energy-sapping presence of “First Air of Autumn”, but otherwise awesome.

Www

Babies in cages
Ghost to most
Goodes field
First air
Thoughts and prayers
Ramon Casiano
Ronnie and Neil

Thanks TC.

I really want to say something about the band but I don't have the technical chops to get it right. All I can say is that Brad is obviously eating his Wheaties (very powerful); Matt and Brad are at a new and higher level that just plain cooks; and Jay of all trades continues to surprise and delight as he covers so much musical ground so tastefully and perfectly. His keyboard playing was particularly notable, especially early in the set

"Hell No/Sign O the Times/Hell No" was a fabulous closer as the band peaked, just the way you draw it up in the dressing room, leaving the crowd both sated and wanting more. The band packed an incredible amount of music into 90 minutes and if you didn't know their shows are typically longer you'd never think that. The run from about "Marry Me" to the close was a pure adrenaline rush.

IIRC the new songs were "Babies in Cages" and "Thoughts and Prayers." Both seemed to go over well but T&P in particular really caught the crowd's attention and got a great response.

Speaking of the crowd, the Anthem was mostly full but I'd guess not quite sold out. As has been noted, the place is absolutely huge, beautiful, modern, sleek remarkably clean (they had staff cleaning the floor DURING the show) and based on just this experience, a great place to see shows. OTOH, the security process on the way in was about as annoying and poorly done as I can remember at a club. The crowd was the closest to M/F balance I've ever seen at a DBT show, which presumably is at least partly related to the Lucinda part of the bill. In contrast to what I've heard about some other shows on this tour, very few people left after Lucinda's set, definitely less than 10%.

Following up on Bubba’s observations, the place was huge and there were two pretty large bathrooms, each with signs outside that said “48 person occupancy”... in addition to thinking “this place is beautiful and pristinely clean”, I thought “you could measure many of the usual venues DBT usually plays in terms of these bathrooms” ie, “damn, the 40-Watt capacity is only 15 of these bathrooms”, or measuring the floor in terms of “this is like 6 9:30 clubs put together”. Standing at the sound board looking at the Anthem stage felt more like looking at the 40-Watt from outside Creature Comforts

Lucinda: I've seen her a bunch of times and, bubba, her shows do tend to start slow and build. I thought she was in good form last night and I love how she brought the house down with Foolishness, which she's worked up as a total anti-Trump song but without ever mentioning his name. It's remarkable that the lyrics ("Don't need any fear mongers in my life" and "Don't need any liars in my life") predate the Trump era by at least a few years, like she knew what was coming when she wrote it. That song should be closing her set instead of being somewhere in the middle like she has it.

DBT: This show definitely had a DBT crowd. Love the set list. Started with the drinking songs WWW and 4th Night (!), moved to the political (Babies in CAges and especially Thoughts & Prayers sounded great), and then took off at light speed from Ramon Casiano through the end. Was good to hang up front with Bill and phungi, was GREAT to spend a few minutes with Beantown Bubba's family, spent some time with Mark Lynn and Barr Weissman too. But those were the only folks I knew - I guess everyone's saving up their energy and dollars for Athens.
