The album that wasn't?
So, looking back through some old data....
Back around late 2014 thru mid 2015 there was a set of songs that seemed like they would have been material for about half a new album and then American Band happened... wonder if any of these will resurface at some point? All of these got played live at least once, but none more than 4 or 5 times. A couple of 'em showed up on the Dragon Pants RSD release.
Including:
The Distance
Forged in Hell and Heaven Sent
218 To Denver
Rock Solid
Dragon Pants
Tough to Let Go

Missed that one getting to the show late.Tyler wrote:Forged in Hell and Heaven Sent
I've really wondered what that album would have been like.
But I can personally guarantee you that Tough To Let Go got played more than five times. I mean, I saw it five times. I think it was played on every Slight Return of The Dirt Underneath tour, but I wouldn't swear to that.

Patterson played Tough To Let Go in Portland last week. He mentioned it's an older song that the Truckers used to play and it is back in the mix for the new album (recording later in Sept).

Dragon Pants came from the EO sessions. That album went in a different direction after Craig passed.Tyler wrote:So, looking back through some old data....

The only time since I've become a Fan that I wondered if the band would make it was right then. As Lou Reed once said, "I've been around, I know what gets things done."Tequila Cowboy wrote:Dragon Pants came from the EO sessions. Here's a plausible version:
1. Shit Shots Count
2. Dragon Pants
3. Primer Coat
4. Grandpa Rock City
5. Made Up English Oceans
6. The Part of Him
7. Hearing Jimmy Loud
8. Rock Solid
9. Hanging On
10. Natural Light
11. When Walter Went Crazy
12. First Air of Autumn
13. Til He's Dead or Rises
14. Pauline Hawkins
69. Tryin' To Be The Boss (On A Beaver Brown Budget)

Re: The album that wasn't?
I have wanted a studio or soundboard mix of The Distance since the first time I heard it. I have a version I mixed up from a couple different recordings of the same performance that is what I consider or know as the best available and I play it often.
There isn't anything particularly special about this song, I guess, but I just really dig it. I think I remember it was a song for the fans.

If I'm not mistaken Patterson sort of unveiled it at one of those August Georgia Theatre shows that they did for a few years. I wish they would bring that back.potatoeater wrote:I have wanted a studio or soundboard mix of The Distance since the first time I heard it. Agree with John A about that time period. I wasn't sure they were you to make it either. Seemed like everything that could go wrong was going wrong.

Where can I get a copy of the dragon pants ep?
Also does anybody have the lyrics to the distance?

Re: The album that wasn't?
It was a limited edition Record Store Day release... ebay or discogs is probably your best bet.Swamp wrote:Where can I get a copy of the dragon pants ep?

Of course, I'd be really happy to give it to you in person, say, at the Atlanta shows next month?

I made a thread about this song once in a desperate attempt to stir up a better copy. These are the lyrics as best I could hear them at the time. Though, I'm not known or my excellent ear for picking out unknown lyrics...
