Tallahassee - Word of South festival

Post by blackwll »

Not seen it discussed on here before, so here goes. Word of South is a literary/music festival in Tallahassee, FL sponsored by the community college there. I saw Jason there a couple of years ago and was really impressed.

This year they had Patterson, his dad David, John Paul White, Donnie Fritts, Ben the keyboard player from the Shakes and co-owner of the Single Lock music label with White, Todd Beane from Lucero and (now defunct?) Glossary and the guitar player from Belle Adair. I missed Saturday but the Sunday show was quite special. They did a tribute to Eddie Hinton with White, Fritts and Hood singing. Then Allison Moorer played a very emotional and self-revealing set. Hood played a lengthy solo set, including a new song called 21st Century (?), and then backed by the band for several tunes. Wish I made a set list.

Big fun for a rainy Sunday afternoon. It was sponsored by the Bitter Southerner website (thanks!).
