Homecoming Opening Acts

Post by bezerkerlurker »

I'm sure many of you will disagree, but the openers the past few years have been less than amazing. I'm making a push for Sarah Shook and The Disarmers, Seratones, J. Roddy, and Lee Bains. They have all put out incredible records this year and all but Sarah Shook have played with DBT. I don't wanna sound like an ad for Sarah Shook, but Sidelong is my most listened to record this year. I'd be stunned if you like Lydia Loveless and don't LOVE Sarah Shook.

I like her, haven’t seen her yet. We’re still only two years removed from Will Johnson for two nights though and Trae Crowder was a treat last year. A Slobberbone opener is always a dream...

I had a dream last night about the Glory Fires opening for DBT. It was at the Fillmore, but the 40 Watt would work just fine.

CG and I often have these discussions about who we'd love to see opening for our guys, but Homecoming shows' openers often seem to be a mix of friends of the band, and local Athens heroes. So in that spirit my dream openers would be Slobberbone and Pylon Reenactment Society. :)

Sometimes it's just somebody I think they would enjoy seeing and sharing with us. I'd go with your suggestion all day everyday though...

OK, I'll give the B-52's the Friday slot as long as REM gets a full hour on Saturday.

I just put Whammy! on to get into the mood! (Has there ever been a more southern band than the B-52's?)

It's been my understanding that the idea behind the openers for Homecoming are to feature local bands. There have been some I've like better than others over the years but none that I just flat out disliked. Sure I'd love to see Lee Bains III and the Glory Fires open but I'm really there for the main event so I'm OK with whoever opens. I do love the Camp Amped Band every year though!

I'm down with whoever, but Aaron Lee Tasjan and Lee and the boys would sure be killer!

We're also only two years removed from Five Eight.
My dream would be Lydia Loveless, LB3, Dexateens, Joey & Kelly Kneiser or of course Slobberbone. Craig Finn, Two Cow Garage, Sarah Shook or someone like Doc Dailey would be cool as well.

Actually, since we're speculating, I'd say it's even odds that we get David Barbe for one night, since he's got a recent record out (and checks off the other usual boxes).

Last year's Camp Amped class was great as well.

Five Eight was really good, and the Vic cover was awesome.
Barbe would be cool, but I want Glossary.

If we're daydreaming, I'll go:

Thursday: Camp Amped, Jay Gonzalez, LB3 & Glory Fires
Friday: Dexateens
Saturday: Bottle Rockets

I'd also be cool with a surprise Centro-Matic reunion.

I've only been to a handful of Homecomings, but "Everything I Say" is easily the most memorable non-DBT song I've seen at Homecoming.
