That's the best write up and tribute I'm going to read. Hands down.

Goosebumps.

I won't pretend to be the biggest Petty fan, but I have fond memories of cruising around in my dilapidated Buick Century listening to his greatest hits CD.

Interesting piece, thanks for posting.

How is it that bands go on tour together and never even meet each other? Is that pretty standard?

I wouldn't think so for mid-sized bands, but for an operation like a TP&HB show I would guess the band is pretty insulated.

That is exactly what I thought. If I was Patterson I would have been pissed as hell and a little depressed about it too.

I think he effectively and respectfully expresses those sentiments in the piece.

It's one of the best things I've read in a while.

I guess so... That one, lone line: "I never met him." could give the impression of anger and/or disappointment. And the way he phrases the preceding statement with "no one bothered" I guess does as well.

However, I didn't get a clear impression of anger from any part of the piece, certainly not in regard to the never meeting him. Sadness or the like is clear throughout nearly the entire piece though but I would not say it has much at all to do with having not met him.

After writing this reply I feel it might be taken as petty or defensive. I guess it is. Maybe I have misinterpreted your quote and reply. I just got the impression that you felt I did not properly or fully comprehend the piece and that hurt my feels...
