DBT - Snowmass

Post by pearlbeer »

Looks like a new addition to the calender:

Southern rock group the Drive-By Truckers will headline the opening night of the first edition of Bluebird Art + Sound in Snowmass Village, running June 30 to July 2, festival producers announced this week.

I can no longer curb my enthusiasm for this show. Hoping to make camping reservations today somewhere nearby.
It doesnt get much better than a full outdoor DBT set in Colorado.

Sweet. I think we met up in San Antonio. I'll have my two girls with me, about the same age as your little one as far as I remember.

As much as I was tempted to make the trek for this one after Boulder became impromptu TDU shows, I couldn't swing it. I'll be interested to hear impressions from those who were there!

That's me, pearlbeer & boyyourself (aka the only three 3dd MF'ers with enough brains and sense to be at the rock show in Snowmass last night).

It was a great show. Top 5 for me for sure. First off, the back drop of stage was open to the mountains. Snowmass is a ways up the mountain, and the show was above that, on the actual ski slope. The view literally went on for miles and miles and dropped in elevation dropped probably about 800 feet. Spectacular. The band went on at 8:15 right as the sun was setting. Bluebird day...clear skies.

There might have been 300 people there, on the side of a ski slope. So, it certainly wasn't crowded. You could be on the rail or back in the crowd or seated no problem.

Seratones opened and were very good. Lead singer ended the set singing up the hill away from the stage.

The band was as always. The boys seemed to appreciate the setting and put on a great show. They looked like they were having fun. By the end, they won the entire crowd over and everyone was right up on the stage.

Great show. On a personal note, I was able to weave the Rock Show into a family vacation. So, I got to take my 5 and 7 year old daughters to their first Rock Show. Hearing things like "oooo Ive heard you play this one daddy"' "which one is Cooley? And "I feel the music inside me!" Well, now that just makes the show rock harder.

So cool. I'd buy a tour tee for the I Feel The Music Inside Me! Tour. Or the Which One is Cooley Tour, for that matter.

I'll add my two cents about this show. What a great night!! Was able to squeeze in a rocky mountain getaway with my wife over the long July 4th weekend. Seeing the Truckers against that mountain backdrop was just spectacular. The weather was absolutely perfect and the sky went from sunny daylight when they came on at 8:15, to an orange-purple sundown, to a black and starlit night when things concluded around 10pm. The set seemed to move in thirds as well: new songs at the beginning, to classics in the middle (How about Sweet Annette-->Marry Me-->Ronnie & Neil-->WWW!!!!), and What It Means-->Banned Imagine---> Hell No to close. The show was way under attended, but that just meant plenty of room to move and to roam the hillside. Cooley's new Harmony conversion guitar, which was the only acoustic he played, is a beauty. The Seratones were a great opener. Great to meet boyyourself and to see Pearlbeer again too (not to mention his wife and little girls).
