Great show as always last night. On at 10:30, off at 12:55, no breaks.
I don't think I've been to a show where Patterson and Cooley spoke so little... Hardly a word from either of them.
I also don't recall seeing any tequila in play last night. Must be saving it up for tonight.
Loved hearing "One of These Days", "Margo", and "Too Much Sex" in the mix...
Ready to go for night number 2!

That was a motherfucking rock show. The Zip City-Buttholeville was. Crazy intense. And then there was the end!! Probably the best Sign O I've heard with the band bathed in purple light--very dramatic. Let's do it again tonight

No breaks and almost 30 songs. It was crisp. Cooley introduced Gravity by saying it was as scientific a song he has for the science march today, but that was about all the banter.

Thanks to all the 6'2-6'6" peeps for looking out for the 5'4" MisterBrow. We were joking that it seems 6'2" is a prerequisite anymore. Ready for night number 2.

Really ripped the fucking roof off last night.
Setlist alone doesn't do this performance justice.

Matt on KKK. Much more talking. Great covers.

My favorite part was Jay breaking a string, trying to play the riff, giving up and just dancing instead, finally just sat on a speaker and drank until he got the guitar back. Pat swinging the mic during Free World. Matt with a dance move leaving the stage. Dance Band of The resistance indeed.

Great to meet Uncle Ricky and Cooley Girl!

Cooley had an epic rant during the break of Company I Keep. Patterson started singing the end of the song after Cooley's rant (something about George Jones bombing in a used car parking lot when he was a kid), and Cooley picked up continued the rant so Patterson stopped singing until he was officially finished. It was great. Friday's show was awesome but last night was an absolute barnburner.
I keep it all together for the sake of the kids.

I'm not one to engage in hyperbole. If we're talking about a show that makes a top 5 list or is considered epic, well last night seriously needs to be in the discussion. Sometimes the final show of a tour can be a bit subdued. Sold out 9:30 Club on a Saturday night--fuck that shit. Both Patterson and Cooley came out loaded for bear. Numerous comments on the incredulity of having to defend proven science in 2017.
The band has really been on fire since the release of the new album and I haven't seen a show that could be considered laid back since then. Last night was a fucking inferno though. A few minutes on either side of 3 hours in duration, the "holy shit" moments just kept coming. Culminating with a massive Rockin' in the Free World with MC Taylor and the Cooke brothers lending a hand. Really to many highlights to go into. I'll just leave it with my sig

Two great shows, last night's was a little more intense. I loved the "Drunk Uncle" Cooley ranting, and sometimes even making sense! ("I thought that was going to be funny") :D (The "Hee Haw" bit between Patterson and Cooley was really funny.)

Of course, the absolute high point for me, was finally getting "A Ghost to Most". It fulfilled my imaginings of how it would hit me. Hard. I think my smile from that lasted through the next few songs.

So grateful for the camaraderie, conversations, good humor, and sore body parts empathy all weekend. Hope everyone got home safe and sound.

WaPo review of night #1. As I was up close (and stayed till the end), I did not see the "exodus" the reporter mentions. (Really? 1/3 of the crowd?) I do get the fatigue factor, but...

Unless the story has been edited--which does happen--I don't find the word "exodus" in the story. I do think the last sentence--"There was no encore."--is probably a little misleading. I haven't listened to the whole show yet, just the Hell No, I'm Not Happy/Sign O' The Times medley, but I'd be surprised if Patterson didn't do the bit about skipping the break and playing straight through.

I do like his description of "Shut Your Mouth And Get On The Plane", even if he got the title a little wrong:
a rock shuffle full of Cooley’s observations about how life and death are driven by destiny, so there’s little use in letting fear ruin a good time
I don't agree with it--it's more about inevitable mortality than destiny, if you ask me, and less about not ruining a good time than not ruining a good life--but it's very well stated.

This sounds like a pretty good description of an exodus: "But obligations to babysitters, Metro schedules or maybe even just fatigue appeared to get in the way of many folks’ ability to stick around till the show’s end. At least one-third of the audience that packed the club at the beginning of the night was gone by the time the Truckers’ set ended with “Hell No I Ain’t Happy.”

I think of an exodus as something that happens en masse, not as a trickle. But I could be just getting all biblical about it.

Not saying this as a fanboy, but as a critical fucker - if you are going to denigrate your target, have your facts straight. That reviewer is excrementally cluless.

"with a 2 ½ -hour set full of progressive political messages put to a retro Southern rock beat"

Progressive retro. At its core the true sound of the band and the politics have been the same for 20 years.

"At least one-third of the audience that packed the club at the beginning of the night was gone by the time the Truckers’ set ended with “Hell No I Ain’t Happy.”'

I was there with different people both nights. NIght two my buddy took off with about ten songs left as he was continuing on to Florida at 6 AM. By the time we HGM came on we decided on the third floor because it looked packed. When he left I little trouble finding my way in front. Night two was less of of sausage fest, just an observation.

"The die-hards who had stood through it all screamed along to every last chorus."

So close to a 1,000 happy yelling people is a bad thing?

"There was no encore."

Anybody that knows anything knows that when the stage bottles are passed into the crowd it is an encore.

I'm a redskins fan and the writer Dave McKenna wrote the most accurate and mean-spirited thing about that douchebag Dan Snyder that the world has ever seen so he gets a big pass from me.

That Saturday night setlist is a killer.

So now the band plays One Of These days every night now?
By the time you drop them I'll be gone
And you'll be right where they fall the rest of your life
