I was suppose to fly to Seattle tomorrow to hang out for a couple of days but I cancelled my trip due to the incoming snow storm here. I was fortunate enough to get all of my points back for hotel and air.

So being a native New Yorker, I would be foolish not to go to Webster Hall given that I flew out to see them at the Ryman two weeks ago. So I will be there on Saturday. I wish someone other than Kyle Craft was opening up. I saw him open up for the band in October in Fort Lauderdale and at the Ryman. I enjoyed him but don't know if I want to see him again right away.

That sounds like a plan. Howlin Wolf also says it's the place to go. You solo, crew, baby girl?

Both shows for myself and the Luverly Lisa, joined by nephews and grand nephews (scary aunt/uncle rock, doncha know). Snow? I heard of that, meh. Kyle was enjoyable for the Sconnie run, but we may miss him in BOC land. Speaking of BOC, DBT was quite close to the guitar front line (c'mon, Brad, strap on some strings for a song!).

In for both. Looking forward to meeting a bunch a' youse...(welcome to New Yawk).

My assumption is: very different shows (other than American Band material) Friday to Saturday?

And...please, for the love of all that is holy and good and righteous, tell me that DBT's audiences also generally do not spend the entire show on their phones?

From the WI, most people seemed to think phone use would get in the way of drinking, so very little phone foolishness

I'll be celebrating a seriously old-guy birthday at the Long Island show-- can the birthday boy get "The Living Bubba?"-- and starting my next year at Webster Hall. Anybody know a good place to eat in Westbury?

Glenn,
I'm typically a guy who loves to take pics and shoot a bit of video, but my last DBT show, it just didn't feel right. Kept it in my pocket most of the show, snuck a couple shots.
See youse later

Well, THAT was an amazing first-ever show!

High points for me:
Them coming out on stage. (It had to begin somewhere).
"Shit Shots Count" was particularly fierce.
"Surrender" and "Ramon", which are both really strong on the record have each grown more powerful live. Not unusual, but since these were both on the "rockier" side of the new album, I didn't think they'd have as much "headroom" to grow. They have.
"Sinkhole" was demonic. In a good way. That into "Uncle Frank" was possibly my favorite "one/two punch" of the night. (I mentioned that I thought the last verse of "Frank" is some of the best lyric writing I've ever heard. Perfect example of showing not telling.
"Women Without Whiskey" was gorgeous.
"What it Means" seems to have also grown into something special live. I really noticed how perfectly Cooley's part supports the song.
The closing triumvirate ("Let There Be Rock"/"Shut Up"/"Grand Canyon") was a technicolor blur, wide-ranging from the ridiculous to the sublime, as they say. "Grand Canyon" was stupendous.

Non-music: I was grateful to the numerous 3DD vets who were so welcoming (as I'd suspected!) Paraphrasing "You've fallen in with quite a gang". Indeed. Folks who are long-time mods here, who know so much more of the history of the band and the people around them, some who'd attended 214 shows (I'm a little blurry on the handles; CooleyGirl? I know real names, but do not want to use 'em here!) treating me like a friend. It helped make the feeling of the night run from start to finish. My FACE hurt at the end from the big, dumb grin I'd had on it...for three hours. Thank you. And so good to see my buddy Dave after...35 (!) years!

Thanks to Patterson for sharing his Tequila.

Can't wait for tonight's Rock Show. See you there!

Re: NY shows (IMPORTANT!)

Post by glennrwordman »

Hey, all:

Just got off the phone with Webster. Spoke to a lovely woman there, who called me back to confirm that:
Doors are now 6:30, not 7:00
Kyle Craft is now 7:30, not 8:00
DBT is 8:30, NOT 9:00 (as usual).

This is contrary to the printed tickets, and as of now, the venue's website. All due to the event following in the Grand Ballroom. The potential good news means a slightly longer DBT performance than feared before. Still, folks who don't get the word and show up expecting a 9 PM hit the stage time will miss a portion of the set.

Some of you may know folks "off the board", so feel free to spread the word.
