Toronto 2/4

Post by ramonz »

Anyone going? A good friend and industry colleague is taking the plunge on my recommendation. He got tix early - this one's SOLD OUT.

Said the venue (The Phoenix) is the type of place where you can get your ass kicked for wearing khakis - sounds fun!

DBT, here's to rendering this virgin a quivering, shell-shocked vole in the paws of a street-wise alley cat. Toy with him. I want him to need an escort out of the place when the last notes of the encore hit his ears and he falls to his knees, spent.

Saw them the last time they played Toronto. They blew the roof off. Fans would not leave. The DBT chant was rattling the rafters. The only time I've seen DBT come out for a second encore
Always go to the show

I think that's an accurate list.
The show was solid but...
They seemed tired at first, then it got going. Maybe the result of 3 shows in 3 nights.
Rocking in the Free world is really something, especially up here in the land of early Neil Young. The guitar techs mount up and it's great! Wish there had been more of that energy throughout the show.
The Phoenix was packed and they had just played here at an outdoor show in the late summer so I was hoping for something...I don't know...special. Didn't happen.
Curious to hear what Montreal gets tonight.

Toronto was their 5th show in five nights.

I wouldn't be very flattered by that if I were the band. It certainly doesn't hold them to a very impressive standard!

I think they've still got it in them to bring the punk rock to Toronto, even on a day 5. They kinda brought the jam band rock on Sat, which I am sure a great many people appreciated.

all this is well and good, but the important question remains unanswered:

did anyone get his ass whooped for wearing khakis?

If he owns khakis worthy of a whoopin', he's smart enough to have left them at home. Said he did enjoy the show - sweaty, packed, heavy, etc.

Subtle, but deadly.

But wasn't the band on fire? Weren't the people great?

Terrific interview on Q with Patterson and Cooley. http://www.cbc.ca/radio/q/thursday-feb- ... -1.3972034.

Smart questions, good conversation. "I guess we're the dance band for the resistance..."

Acoustic (mostly) performances of "Once They Banned Imagine" and "Surrender Under Protest".
I’d have a lot of nerve to go feigning shock and outrage/If I'd been my example I’d be worse

You shit disturber you, Bubba.

Many, many people enjoy nothing more than watching a bunch of stoned guys bond together on stage, as they draw out every song to within an inch of its life. Jam music, or whatever it’s called, is a viable, widely appreciated and profitable musical genre. The people who play this stuff tend to be very proficient musicians as well, and in this respect DBT are certainly no exception. But the tight wall of sound and any traces of a punk rock aesthetic were notably absent a few weeks ago.

To be honest, I had a bit of a low grade fever and I was exhausted and I didn’t really appreciate some of the stuff Patterson said. A couple of times he mentioned how we should have the Statue of Liberty because at the moment we are more amenable to offering asylum to those in need. I found that a bit condescending as we actually have our own history and monuments and pretty presents from France. We really don’t need to be regifted your second hand glory to make us feel good about ourselves. You guys may use your country as the standard against which other countries are measured. But other countries don’t use that standard. If you are going to travel the world for work, it might be worthwhile to consider this. I know he meant well, but I was like eye roll, eye roll, eye roll…

And don’t even get me started on khakis. We don’t need America’s monuments and we don’t need their insipid, beige pants either!

Happy now?

Pony Girl, I think I've gotten you confused with someone else who is into horses and is on 3DD. I'm going to have to go back and brush up on your old posts. If they are as glorious as this, I have some fun reading ahead!
