I'll be going to this show with literally about a dozen friends. Not sure what our pre game plans are quite yet but I will post here when it's settled.
Re: Detroit Feb 3
I'll be heading back to my hometown for the third night of my three night run. Zip Up, hope to meet you tonight or tomorrow -- I'll probably be in Cooleyvilile wearing a Cubs hat both nights.

Sounds good man. We are shooting for cooleyville as well. I'll be wearing a red wings beanie both nights. My buddy has a Lions hat.

I'll have a blue Todd Snider beanie on. Hard to say where we will be for show the wives aren't big fans of being upfront. We are staying in town planning to hit up the casino after the show and continue the good times.
Re: Detroit Feb 3
I thought they were really good last night. The new stuff sounded really energized. Sound at the Majestic was good. Seemed close to a sellout. I missed their last Royal Oak show (with Lee Bains III) but they were way better last night than last time I saw them (Royal Oak w/Old 97s) so that was refreshing.
I was happy to hear Southern Thing. Just 1 song from Decoration Day and 2 from The Dirty South, if my memory serves.

Went to the show in Chicago and the show in Detroit. Detroit was far and away the better show. The band seemed more into it, or at least more drunk. Getting "The Southern Thing" was an amazing surprise, and hearing Cooley fuck up during "Zip City" made the night complete. For my first two DBT shows I'm not surprised to say they absolutely blew me away.
Re: Detroit Feb 3
Yeah, Cooley seemed exceptionally wasted. There was one moment of banter where he told a fan to suck his c*ck and seemed to be having trouble articulating and putting words together. Still, other than the Zip City brain-fart I thought he played and sang really well.

They were drunk as hell and sloppy as fuck last night.
After Cooley told a heckler to suck his dick, and then proceeded to fuck up English Oceans, I did something I never thought I would do at a Truckers show.
I walked out.
I ain't even mad, just disappointed.

Your loss. Don't go to a show and heckle the band you are paying to see. Period. Good for Cooley, I appreciated his comment.Eyes Above It wrote:They were drunk as hell and sloppy as fuck last night.

Last night was a blast. They were definitely drunk and sloppy but that's how I love my Truckers. I was front and center in Chicago so while I couldn't get a better spot, I definitely got the better set last night. Too many highlights to mention. Setlist coming shortly.

I dunno the exact set times but the show started around 1035pm and went until approximately 1am. Thanks to "MeanOldHighway" for the set - I was too drunk to record.

For the record I didnt have a problem with his rant about shitty white people, or telling off the heckler.Zip Up to Michigan wrote:

I only had a problem with Cooley being so inebriated that he couldn't remember the lyrics to his own song.
Its one thing to talk shit, but if you're going to talk shit, back it up with a great performance.
Oh well, cant win em all I guess. Hopefully last night was just an off night for them.

Re: Detroit Feb 3
An FYI from Patterson
Love reading in 3DD how wasted we all were, especially Cooley in Detroit.
Shame we weren't. It was actually an extra sober show. Cooley hadn't been feeling great and we've all been exhausted from colds and the cold but no one was particularly drunk. Kinda been extra sober this whole run (except maybe Milwaukee).
I know we all forget words from time to time.
Usually that means I'm not stoned and my brain gets ahead of my mouth and fucks me up.
We call him Scooby Do, but Scooby doesn’t do. Scooby, is not involved

cooley gettn loose and forgetting a few lyrics describes every dbt show I saw from '04 to around 2010 which is around six dozen shows. I never felt it detracted from the shows because its a party and its a wall of guitars and I'm singing the lyrics wether cooley is or not. I was glad to see them truly learn to take care of themselves (quitting smoking, cutting way back on drinking) as these things have doubt helped keep them going longer and stronger. plus American Band and darkened flags tour have had such serious undertone which has been such another level of dbt badassery and not fuckingaroundedness that there has to be some nights of cutting loose havin a good time. if anyones allowed it should be cooley.

Well said. I'm having a difficult time understanding how someone can walk away from a DBT show because Cooley forgot a few lyrics. Last night was off the charts charts good. Huge mistake there by the above poster for walking out.boyyourself wrote:cooley gettn loose and forgetting a few lyrics describes every dbt show I saw from '04 to around 2010 which is around six dozen shows. As for the Patterson statement...I haven't been to a ton of DBT shows but I certainly haven't seen them drink like they did last night. I was drunk myself so maybe my eyes/ears were deceiving me but they were definitely going hard. I think the fact they were wayyyy more vocal with song intros (especially when considering the Limited banter in Chicago )and the lyric flubs help prove it. I specifically remember Cooley had the fifth of tequila in his hands when he was telling the heckler to piss off. Loved the whole thing , not sure why Patterson even felt the need to address it. I would love to see how Milwaukee went if last night was more of a "sober " show!

Agree 100%. My original comment about the guys being drunk and Cooley forgetting a lyric wasn't any kind of criticism. I loved every second of that show. If they weren't drunk, that's fine, I just enjoyed the show so much more because the guys looked like they were having such a great time.Zip Up to Michigan wrote:Well said. Funny, I had the opposite view. I thought they came out on fire in Chicago and that it was the strongest show of the three I saw this week. Not that the detroit show wasn't great, because it was. Really enjoyed the Patterson stories about how he always felt a strong connection between detroit and muscle shoals and the story about Henry ford almost moving his plant there.Zip Up to Michigan wrote:Your loss. Bummed we missed you. I ran into Jay Gonzales outside of the venue around 7:30 and found out they weren't starting until 10:30. With that news, we headed straight back to the bar, not needing to see Kyle Craft again.Mr. B wrote:

I thought they were tighter in Chicago but I vastly preferred the set list in Detroit. I've been chasing "The Southern Thing." "Goodes Field Road," "Birthday Boy," "Uncle Frank," and "Ronnie and Neil" are all top 10 DBT songs for me. Plus I had a bunch of friends in the house and we were all kinds of boozed up.
Loved both, preferred Detroit.

This was my 5th Rock Show and was on of my favorites. We ran into Cooley at the Hopcat across the street before the show. The Southern Thing was a song that I thought I would never hear live and was one of the highlights of the night for me.

If I walked out of a DBT show everytime someone fucked up the lyrics I don't think I would have seen a complete DBT show yet
Turn you demons into walls of goddamned noise and sound.

Maybe it depends on how one defines "wasted." And completely agree with boyyourself that the shows are generally just as good even if the boys enjoyed a few drinks before or during the show. And the Detroit show was spot on. But it seemed to me that Cooley had certainly had some drinks that night -- in fact, during the first or second song I said to my buddy that "Cooley is pretty drunk" after he stepped to the front of the stage and almost tripped over a wire and landed on us. (I was on the rail, dead center). And he missed more lyrics than he typically does, especially on English Oceans and Zip City. But, no worries, Cooley brought his "A" game and helped deliver an outstanding rawk show.

I've seen them sober, wasted and everything in between and they've brought it every time. Fuckin up lyrics happens in live shows, no matter what the band (unless its some hyper-rehearsed corporate band or something).
Shit, I haven't even known of them being excessively drunk since way before Isbell's departure, but it is a Rock show, and last I checked a level of debauchery is welcomed (and even encouraged).

Re: Detroit Feb 3
I wasn't too put off by it - nothing to make me walk out - but I feel pretty confident saying that Cooley was feeling no pain. During that tirade he was definitely guzzling tequila and slurring pretty good. Maybe Patterson is doing some damage control for some reason or something. Whatever, not a big deal even if they were wasted. Odd that he would even acknowledge it.
Sometimes when a band or musician is wasted it can just come off as sad or pathetic, and sometime it can be fun and add to the looseness and party atmosphere. I've seen these guys at all different levels of messed up but it's never been that sad or pathetic way, but always like a party.
They were so much better this time than they were last time I saw them (Nov 2013) that I really enjoyed it. Every time I start to doubt them, they restore my faith and get be back in. They have a long, strong relationship with Detroit, and it's been fun to see it flourish.
