Said something to the effect of "why do people call DBT the best band in America? How many hits do THEY have?" Can't remember the exact quote but it's close. Asshats.
We call him Scooby Do, but Scooby doesn’t do. Scooby, is not involved

No wonder the pigeons shit in the KOL months at Verizon. All DBT did was open a show at the same venue where it was 100 degrees, 100% humidity and the sun shining in their faces. Kicked ass for an hour. Didn't hear about the pigeons shitting on the Truckers.
They have more then just "Hits", they have albums of "Hits". KOL , what hits do they have? "I guess if Patterson wore girl pants with tight rolls at the bottom, things would have been diffrent for DBT..........

Also made the remark that they hated being lumped in with DBT, and they had saw them on TV the night before and it was the worst thing they'd ever seen.
My memory's a little murky, but if I recall another comment being made, KOL's first album came out about the same time as DD, and somebody from KOL was bitching that DD got better reviews than the KOL record....or sumthin er other.
The Kings went out of their way to diss on DBT and called them rednecks or something to that effect. This happened(I think) back when Rolling Stone was really at it's nadir in terms of reviewing records and they would lump two records together that supposedly had some type of connection which was usually tenuous at best. RS reviewed a DBT record along with a KOL record. If I was in either band I would be upset about this admittedly lame journalistic practice. However going after the other band that RS put you together with makes them dicks. In terms of KOL and DBT I see the only connection being carbon based life forms inhabiting the planet Earth and the Milky Way.
The Tom Petty show gets cancelled so DBT goes out of their way to book a last minute club show that night for their fans who travelled to Cleveland and plays a three hour set. And KoL wonder why DBT is called "The Best Band in America"?
It ain't about the money or even being #1 You gotta know when it's all over you did the best you could've done Knowing that it's in you and you never let it out Is worse than blowing any engine or any wreck you'll ever have

A bird shit in Cyndi Lauper's mouth while she was performing live on the Today show a few years ago. She didn't quit or walk off the stage. She finished her performance without hesitation.
"The show must go on." Period. End of discussion. It's been that way at least since Shakespeare's time.
I especially loved the defense presented by an anonymous (of course) commenter to Patterson's diary blog: because of the refunds, fans actually got a "bonus" of a free 3 song show. Say WHAT!!??
The comparison to DBT playing that Cleveland club show is very apt, i think. KOL's bonehead move will go down as one of the lamest moments in rock n roll history.
What used to be is gone and what ought to be ought not to be so hard
When the KOL's first album came out, i remember them slagging off Lynyrd Skynyrd in some magazine (probably Mojo), calling them rednecks etc, and that they aren't lovers of LS's music, and don't wish to be regarded as similar. No worries on that score Skynyrd were far more talented.

First album out of the box Lynyrd Skynyrd comes up with Gimme Three Steps, Tuesday's Gone, Simple Man and Freebird. Any one of those songs would be a career defining song for most artists but Skynyrd delivers four of them on one album. The most underrated thing about LS is their songwriting.

Something about KOL has always seemed "off" to me. Like their backstory is just a little too perfect. Three brothers and a cousin raised in the deep south by a pentecostal preacher just happen to get discovered in time to become "the southern Strokes"? Two of the brothers couldn't even play their instruments yet when they signed their contract, and most of their early stuff was written by or with a professional songwriter. Smells like a boy band to me (with a hint of pigeon shit).

The other thing about them is that slagging off others from the South, calling DBT, Skynyrd and others "rednecks" smacks of self-hatred and embarrassment about your origins. This is the exact opposite of everything I believe DBT stands for. Why be ashamed about being raised as a pentecostal preacher's son? The same pentecostals that gave us The Blackwoods and Jimmy Swaggart also gave us Elvis and Jerry Lee.
Don't call what you're wearing an outfit. Don't ever say your car is broke. Don't sing with a fake British accent. Don't act like your family's a joke. Have fun, but stay clear of the needle, call home on your sister's birthday. Don't tell them you're bigger than Jesus, Don't give it away.

Were KOL the ones who rented out the new Dallas Cowboys' stadium so they could play xbox on the giant jumbotron? Maybe I'm thinking of the Jonas Brothers. Easy mistake to make.
