working on talking wife into going for her birthday (it's the 8th), lots of great music and we can do some serious beer/food tourism in Portland, one of our favorite cities. We've done her birthday in Portland several times so it's not a tough sell
Also glad to see Dungen, Dinosaur Jr, and Dori Freeman on the lineup
some band called Hiss Golden Messenger there--are they any good?

There is a high likelihood that I'm going to this fest and I am in the minority that finds HGM to be underwhelming--in my case, underwhelming at best. Unlike some, I haven't found their kool-aid to be to my liking. Not a problem, there are a ton of bands I like on this lineup

The ever so slight downside is that I do take it for granted that I can buy great beer at €1.10 a bottle in the supermarket. Hence my flippant comment above.whatwouldcooleydo? wrote:And it is a great beer capital in which you live. If you don't drink Cantillon daily you are a fool........... I'm not really a geuze guy. My fridge at the moment has Orval and Duvel. A cold 8.5% Duvel can knock the edge off the worst of the days. I need to get out their, by the sounds of it... I would love to find some American beer that didn't go wild on the hops.whatwouldcooleydo? wrote:

By the way, there's been an Orval shortage in Belgium for a couple of years now... 80% goes to you guys and the monks can't keep up.
Enjoy!

Plenty of great west coast US beer that isn't hop-centric. Come for a visit and we'll gladly host you and show you arounddisgruntledgoat wrote: need to get out their, by the sounds of it... I would love to find some American beer that didn't go wild on the hops.
That said, what football club do you support, if any? I am an EPL guy, though my club (Aston Villa) was relegated
Cantillon does more than gueze

I used to have season tickets at Sheffield United in my younger days. But more into rugby as I get older. My BiL is a big Villa fan.whatwouldcooleydo? wrote:Plenty of great west coast US beer that isn't hop-centric. The company I work for make malt for the brewing industry and they're trying to break in to the US craft sector at the moment. Maybe I could swing that... I'm in North Carolina for a week in September so I could extend a little. Hmmmm

Wonder here who's drinking that--I'm pretty well tapped into the West Coast beer scene and no one here is drinking that stuff. If one wants that kind of thing there's American brewers doing much better. Must be the Trump peopledisgruntledgoat wrote:By the way, there's been an Orval shortage in Belgium for a couple of years now... 80% goes to you guys and the monks can't keep up.

I'm a born & raised North Carolina guy (Asheville) but I've lived in northern CA for the past 21 years. You'd much rather visit CA than NC, no doubtdisgruntledgoat wrote:I used to have season tickets at Sheffield United in my younger days. But more into rugby as I get older. One of my dear friends from Birmingham is a huge rugby fan-- I've tried to get into it but here in the US it isn't easy.disgruntledgoat wrote:I used to have season tickets at Sheffield United in my younger days. It's Asheville we're visiting to see some friends. They sent me a Christmas card with a sock monkey drinking a can of Pabst Blue Ribbon with "Greetings from Asheville" below.
