Edited since Kudzu beat me to the playlist post :D

Lot's of really cool insight from Patterson on these songs, one of my favorite bits, while he was talking about Bennie and the Jets, was that the live crowd audio on Let There Be Rock was lifted from the Cheap Trick Live at Budokan LP (not sure if that was common knowledge, but it was news to me.) It also made me realize how much I would love a Beats 1-style program from the band, not trying to make more work for the guys, but sign me up for W-DBT Radio.

I would definitely groove on a station with a playlist that diverse.

Some of my favorite songs there. Any chance it was archived for later listening?

It's not always quite that diverse, but the Colorado Sound is usually pretty great. That link is their 24/7 live stream, so I'd definitely recommend checking it out sometime.

I definitely second this, sadly, I was in the car and unable to capture it.

Fishbone did a great version of Freddie's Dead once upon a time.

I emailed Margot, the DJ who was chatting with Patterson and she said that they'd be re-broadcasting the interview/playlist on Monday, Jan. 16 at noon mountain if anyone's interested in tuning in and/or recording.

This makes me think about how I've always wanted to know more about what Cooley is listening to at any given time. I think we generally tend to know more or less what Patterson is enjoying--he'll tweet about it, or mention it in an interview, or put it in his end-of-year best-of list. But I have no earthly idea what Cooley listens to in his spare time.

That is actually a great question. I never thought about it, and I have no idea.

We know he listens to Charlie Rich and Tom T. and Merle Haggard so I tend to believe he's a country gold listener.

Yeah, I imagine there's a fair bit of that. Kristofferson. Stones. Faces. Clash. But I wonder what he listens to that was released after 1980 or so.

ZZ Top- Afterburner. That's the only thing I can say with any amount of certainty.

He's said more than once that he doesn't listen to a lot of music. I take that to mean that while Patterson is the music geek Cooley has his favorites that he listens to but doesn't care about trying to stay up on whatever the latest and greatest is. That's my take anyway.

Really, ... I wonder if he was just saying that in passing. Their first album had four decent tracks on it, including that song you mentioned, for what they were worth. But... the Darkness aren't in anywhere the same class of band or music that Patterson talks about and quotes.

What are your top 5 favorite records?
Mike Cooley:
As far as albums I like… I like every album anybody had passion to make and disregarded what anybody had to say about it. I know there are more than 5.
Live at San Quinton – Johnny Cash
Layla – Derek and the Dominos
To Long In The Wasteland – James McMurtrey
One More From The Road – Lynyrd Skynrd
Sticky Fingers – Rolling Stones

As open as Patterson is about his musical tastes / likes, Cooley seems to be the total opposite.
The previously mentioned albums make sense, but all are well in the distant past. Along with his nods / covers of a few classic country tunes.
Anyone have any insight into his "current" musical tastes?
