Wife and I have both been sick all week, so it's looking like I'm out. After seeing the recent setlists, I'm massively bummed that I won't be making it.

I had thought about this show and would enjoy it, but I'm making a trip home in a few days with my son for Thanksgiving. If I didn't have my 6 year old with me, I'd stop at the concert on the way home.

Looks like another late start for Johnnie. I plan to make it by showtime, but who knows where the time goes? I haven't yet bought my ticket, so anyone with a spare can get their cash back from me.

If they start to come out, tell the band I'll be there in fifteen minutes!

I'd like to note that someone forgot to ask the band to wait till I got there, and as a result, I missed this part. You guys need to get on the ball.

So we were chatting after the show and I mentioned how Cooley, the more radical of the Dimmer Twins, seems really in his element and on his game, and we had a good talk. What was in my mind--has been for a while now--is that while Cooley's political material from MUEO forward has been more radical than Patterson's, it's been Patterson and What It Means that's drawn the fire.

I mean, What It Means is thoughtful and goodhearted. I'm very fond of it. It is also very moderate politically. And yet it gets the hate. So this morning I read David Remnick's long piece on Obama after the election and found this:
“There are certain things we know,” he said. “We know that when there is a conversation about the police and African-Americans, and conflict between those two, everybody goes to their respective corners. That is an area that just triggers the deepest stereotypes and assumptions—on both sides. The biggest drop that I had in my poll numbers in my first six months had nothing to do with the economy. It was ‘the beer summit.’ ” That August, a fifty-eight-year-old black Harvard professor, Henry Louis Gates, Jr., had been arrested and handcuffed at his own door by a white police officer. An uproar ensued when Obama seemed to take Gates’s side, and, hoping to quiet the storm, the White House arranged a sitdown over beers between the professor and the policeman. “Among white voters, my poll numbers dropped, like, I don’t know, ten per cent or something,” Obama continued. “If you don’t stick your landing in talking about racial issues, particularly when it pertains to the criminal-justice system, then people just shut down. They don’t listen.”
So Patterson and my president--pretty sure this is the only one I'll ever have for my own, warts and all--are in the same boat. I guess it's pretty good company.

I wonder who Obama's Cooley is?

I think this has to be my favorite setlist of the tour thus far. Just fantastic with the SRO material in there. Hoping for a bootleg!
