Atlanta @ Tabernacle w/Kyle Craft

Post by Smitty »

Who can I expect to see at this show? Ladonna and I will be joined by my niece and her boyfriend, both longtime fans but virgins of the ROCK show. My nephew who sports a Cooleybird tattoo may also be attending if work allows.

We'll be making a weekend of it at the Highland Inn in Little Five Points, so if anyone wants to meet up at the Star Bar or somewhere lemme know. It's not the closest hotel to the venue but it's where I always stay at in ATL. I love L5P and if you've never been its worth checking out.

I've also read up and done a little listening to Kyle Craft and I'm looking forward to seeing him as well. Of course there's no one I would rather see open more than Lydia Loveless & crew, but he seems like a very talented and interesting artist.

Maybe. I thought I was going to use frequent flyer miles for the Bay Area shows--with friends to stay with, those are remarkable cheap for me, once I get there--but that fell through. This one and Tuscaloosa are possibilities.

I miss seeing DBT at the Variety Playhouse in L5P, great neighborhood and venue. It was where I first saw DBT, with Jason and Neff in late Dec. 2006. Now that we know how awkward it must have been backstage, it was a great show considering. Heck, it was a good show anyway. Jason sat in with Centro-matic for the entire opening act. Been there several times since for DBT.

It was always great, indeed, seeing DBT at Variety.

But the Tabby...hell, there ain't a thing wrong with a little Saturday night church. Last time I saw them there was a couple of days after Levon died (can it really have been that long?!) and the floors were bouncing. Looking forward to a repeat here in a couple weeks.

I've been missing perfectly good opportunities to catch the band this tour and I think I'd like to end that trend.

Now: If you are planning to go from Tuscaloosa to this show, let me know. I'm currently planning on taking the Greyhound from Tuscaloosa to Atlanta, but would love to find someone to ride with instead. If after-show driving is involved, I am your man! I seldom have more than one drink and I'm a good late-night driver.

I normally sit in the balcony for Tabernacle shows but this time I plan to be front and center. I need the immersive Rock Show experience surrounded by all you motherfuckers in the worst way.

Holy fucking shit, what a night. Cooley was on fire from the jump and had several memorable mini-rants that I'm counting on Lurleen McQ and TC to pass along. Got there early and grabbed a spot on the rail in Cooleyville. Just a wonderful time with great friends, old and new. I love being part of this community. The boys are truly at the top of their games, individually and as a unit. I really needed this.

Conspiracy. That show was recorded three weeks ago on the NASA sound stage they used for the moon landings. They edited out all the stuff about President-elect Clinton--no one thought she'd lose, so it was kind of a rush job. You'll hear the edits if you listen closely.

God, but it's great to get this off my conscience.

This specific taper lives in Atlanta, so I imagine that played a role in the speed of his upload, though he travels a ton and is known for getting shows uploaded in a flash from his hotel. He's a beast and a bit of a legend in taping circles
